The Epic Games Store Free Game for January 29 Looks Like The Ultimate Breaking Bad Simulator

The Epic Games Store Free Game for January 29 Looks Like The Ultimate Breaking Bad Simulator

The Epic Games Store has had a fairly solid start to the year. EGS kicked off 2026 with Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate, two very different but very enjoyable games, which were quickly followed by Bloons TD 6 and the first two Styx games. That solid run continued with the most recent Epic Games Store free game, and the one available up until January 29: Rustler.

A raunchy “historically inaccurate” medieval game, Rustler takes the top-down chaotic action of classic Grand Theft Auto and mixes it with Monty Python and the Holy Grail-inspired humor. EGS seems to be continuing this adult-oriented theme next week, as the January 29 free Epic Game Store game is Definitely Not Fried Chicken, a title that Breaking Bad fans are going to want to keep an eye on.

Epic Games Store: A Comprehensive List Of Every Free Game It’s Had To Date

Here’s a list of all the games that have been made free on the Epic Games Store. You have until January 29 to get the current free game.

The Epic Games Store Free Game for January 29-February 4: Definitely Not Fried Chicken

The Ultimate Breaking Bad Simulator

  • Originally released in September 2023
  • Developed by Dope Games
  • Usual retail price: $24.99
  • A business management sim with a dark twist
  • Channel your inner Gus Fring as you hide your illicit deeds behind the front of a fried chicken shop

It’s been well over a decade since its final episode aired and Breaking Bad is still considered one of the best shows of all time, thanks in no small part to its cast of compelling characters and the stellar performances associated with them. While Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman (rightfully) tend to get most of the praise when fans look back on the show, Giancarlo Esposito’s Gustavo Fring still shines as a fan-favorite character, despite appearing in just 26 of Breaking Bad‘s 62 episodes

The unassuming kingpin of the American Southwest’s largest drug empire, Gustavo Fring appears to most of the world as a friendly fried chicken shop manager. Unlike other iconic TV villains, Gus Fring isn’t remembered for his violent outbursts, but instead for his constantly cool demeanor and his ability to manipulate those around him in a careful and calculated way. The Epic Games Store free game for January 29 lets players channel their inner Gus Fring.

Though not an officially licensed Breaking Bad adaptation, Definitely Not Fried Chicken certainly takes inspiration from the groundbreaking AMC show, with its core gameplay loop seeing players building a drug empire in secret, and using a fried chicken shop as a front for their shady business dealings. The game begins with players building their business from the ground up, manually placing furniture and appliances, buying ingredients, and hiring staff. As their legitimate business starts to earn money, players will begin working on the other, more lucrative half of the venture, developing illegal substances, hiring runners, and meeting new ‘business partners.’

Like any good business sim, Definitely Not Fried Chicken‘s gameplay loop is driven by a constant sense of progression. As players earn more money, they’ll be able to purchase better equipment, hire more qualified staff, and deliver better quality products, which in turn gives them even more money for even better upgrades. Eventually, players will even be able to expand their empire by purchasing new legitimate restaurants and other not-so-legitimate pieces of real estate. It’s a simple loop, but Definitely Not Fried Chicken has enough depth in its progression to keep players engaged for at least a few hours.

As well as striving to earn a fortune, Definitely Not Fried Chicken tasks players with managing their workforce efficiently, in both halves of their enterprise. Players need to manage schedules and ensure that staff needs are catered for in their facilities, whether that’s making sure there are enough bathrooms for everyone or building a break room to keep up morale. Definitely Not Fried Chicken may not be the most polished title the Epic Games Store has offered, but it should satiate some fans’ desire for a proper Breaking Bad video game adaptation.
