The Witcher 3’s New DLC Release is CDPR’s Worst-Kept Secret

The Witcher 3’s New DLC Release is CDPR’s Worst-Kept Secret

As unlikely as it sounds, it seems like The Witcher 3 really is going to get a third expansion at some point. Evidence—quite compelling evidence, actually—continues to pile up, not only suggesting that a new Witcher 3 DLC exists, but that it will release as soon as this year.

While highly unconventional, it’s not hard to understand why CD Projekt Red would plan to release a DLC for this almost 11-year-old game. The Witcher 3 is one of the most critically acclaimed and widely beloved video games of all time, and its sequel, which many expect will launch in 2027 or 2028, is as hotly anticipated as a game can be. Drumming up hype for The Witcher 4 with a surprise DLC, especially if it’s a substantial one, could serve to get players even more excited about the continuation of the fantasy gaming world. And assuming that this alleged DLC is a traditional one (e.g., not a standalone expansion a la Uncharted: The Lost Legacy), the install base for the widely owned Witcher 3 could result in major sales out of the gate; it’s hard to imagine that any Witcher 3 fan would pass up this DLC, if it is indeed real.

The Witcher 3’s Rumored Surprise DLC Might Eventually Bring Everything Full Circle for Cyberpunk 2077 and CDPR

The Witcher 3 could very well be getting another DLC this year, improbable as it may seem, and this could set a good precedent for Cyberpunk 2077.

A Brief History of The Witcher 3 DLC Rumors, Leaks, and Speculation

Multiple Sources Have Made Statements About a Witcher 3 DLC in Development

The first whispers of a new Witcher 3 DLC emerged in the summer of 2025, when Polish journalist Borys Niespielak claimed that Fool’s Theory, the studio working on the remake of The Witcher 1, was helming the clandestine expansion. His statement was eventually corroborated by several sources, including notable leaker NateTheHate, who claimed to have “heard” of the project.

Also worth noting is a December 17, 2025, video posted by Polish games journalist Krystian Smoszna on YouTube. In it, Smoszna speaks with former Witcher 1 project lead Ryslaw Chojnowski, and both claim to have heard of the upcoming Witcher 3 DLC. While they don’t claim to have exclusive information beyond what Niespielak reported, they both note that they’re inclined to believe in the project’s existence.

There’s also a slightly more interesting source: Noble Securities market analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski. In December 2025, Chrzanowski published a report regarding CD Projekt Red stock, wherein he claimed he expected “the next paid add-on (DLC) for The Witcher 3” to be released this May. While that release date seems a little unrealistic at this point, it’s interesting that an analyst from a Polish investment firm would make such a confident claim: this isn’t a content creator, journalist, or other kind of games industry insider looking to ride a hype train or snag some clout.

CD Projekt Red Won’t Confirm or Deny Any Rumors, Though It’s Come Close

All the while, CD Projekt Red itself has refused to comment on the aforementioned evidence, which is somewhat out of character for the developer. After all, CDPR learned the hard way that over-hyping and under-delivering can wreck your reputation and credibility. CD Projekt tends to squash rumors like these if they get big enough, and these DLC rumors are definitely big enough at this point.

However, the developer may have gestured toward this project just a few months after the rumors began to spread. In a November 2025 financial report, CDPR’s CFO said, “There is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.” This is a little cheeky, and it’s hard to imagine what else the CFO is referring to here; the “new content” is made to sound significant, so it’s probably not something minor like a quality-of-life update, port, et cetera.

CD Projekt Red’s Latest Hint Leaves Even Less Room for Doubt

Finally, we arrive at CD Projekt Red’s March 2026 quarterly report, in which the company says that it plans “to publish one of the heretofore unannounced gaming projects” at some point “in the coming quarters,” which likely means some time this year. CD Projekt Red has already announced major projects like the Witcher multiplayer game, Witcher 1 remake, and The Witcher 4 and Project Orion, so again, it’s hard to imagine the developer is referring to anything else but new content for The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt tends to squash rumors like these if they get big enough, and these DLC rumors are definitely big enough at this point.

Like with the previous, vague statement from CDPR, this comment is more meaningful when paired with the context of the ongoing Witcher 3 DLC rumors. There is very little chance that the higher-ups at CDPR (AKA the ones making these statements in financial reports) aren’t aware of these rumors and the rabid hype surrounding them, and it’s therefore likely that they know what sort of impact these comments have. Put another way, why would CD Projekt Red continue to reference a shadowy “unannounced game” if they weren’t actually working on a Witcher 3 expansion, since so many will assume that’s what they are referencing anyway?

Naturally, none of this is exactly confirmation, and any rumors should be taken with a healthy dose of salt as always. However, when looking at the evidence in its totality, a 2026 expansion for The Witcher 3 seems incredibly probable—it’s not a bad horse to back.
