One of the Scariest Horror Games of the Last Decade is Officially Coming to the Switch 2

More than five years after launch, it’s been announced that Frictional Games’ Amnesia: Rebirth is officially coming to the Switch 2. The survival horror title is part of the popular Amnesia franchise, which takes players out of a dark, haunted castle to a desolate Algerian desert as they help engineer Tasi Trianon survive the horrors ahead. With Amnesia: Rebirth releasing on the Switch 2 soon, more players will get to experience its scary monsters and immersive puzzles on the portable device.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a fresh take on previous Amnesia games, which were known for their jump scares and the feeling of paranoia while exploring the halls of Brennenburg Castle. As mentioned, players follow Tasi, who loses parts of her memories after a plane crash in the middle of an Algerian desert. She must retrace her steps to remember why she’s on this journey, while also surviving the terrors that await in every dark cave and abandoned shelter. Amnesia: Rebirth doesn’t greet players with scares right off the bat, but it does provide the same eerie and suffocating atmosphere that Amnesia games are best known for.

Nintendo confirms that the prices of physical games will differ in the future, and explains the reasons behind its decision.

Amnesia: Rebirth Coming Soon on Switch 2

  • Amnesia: Rebirth Switch 2 Release Date: April 30, 2026

When Amnesia: Rebirth was released back in 2020, it was only available to play on the PC and PlayStation 4. But starting April 30, 2026, developer Frictionless Games and publisher Abylight Studios are bringing Amnesia: Rebirth to the Swtich 2, which will be optimized for the console’s new hardware. Its key features highlight the game’s first-person horror experience and strategic resource management, including ways to maintain Tasi’s physical and mental health bars. For new players, this will be a terrifying experience and also a fun title to start on after playing Resident Evil Requiem on the Switch 2.

Following the announcement, some Amnesia: Rebirth fans were excited to replay it on the Switch 2, while those who haven’t played it yet are also looking forward to getting the game. Meanwhile, there are also some who are not too keen about Amnesia: Rebirth‘s Switch 2 port, mostly because they have yet to upgrade their consoles. Nintendo has received backlash for how it handled the Switch 2 reveal almost a year ago, with many people criticizing the cost of the console and its games. Recently, the company saw a spike in Switch 2 purchases and an increase in its stock, thanks in large to the popularity of Pokemon Pokopia.

Many horror titles are often overlooked because of their scary themes and heavy storylines, which is why it’s beneficial for them to be present on as many platforms as possible. After the likes of Amnesia: Rebirth and Resident Evil Requiem, there are many other horror games that could be ported to the Switch 2 in the future, especially if they were overlooked for the first Switch. This could also contribute to the resurgence of the horror survival genre, as more players will get to experience these games.

Aside from Amnesia: Rebirth‘s Switch 2 release, Frictionless Games is also hard at work developing its upcoming project, Ontos. Said to be Frictionless Games’ Soma spiritual successor, Ontos is a sci-fi adventure game set in a repurposed moon hotel called Samsara, where players will encounter chilling experiments and other disturbing encounters that will make them question reality. In terms of gameplay, it’s described as having an immersive narrative and exploration, allowing players to scavenge materials and manipulate machinery to complete missions. Barring any delays, Ontos is set to be released sometime in 2026, which looks to be another exciting horror title from the developer.
