A new batch of Fan Festival commemorative items has arrived in the Final Fantasy 14 cash shop, including the Hardy-Daytona mount and Wind-up Red XIII minion from Final Fantasy 7. These conspicuous items have led many Final Fantasy 14 players to wonder if the critically acclaimed MMORPG is going to have a bunch of FF7 references in its next expansion.

The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival circuit for 2026 is about to begin. The first of these conventions takes place on April 24 and will almost certainly reveal the title and trailer for the game’s next expansion. The next two FanFests on July 25 and October 31 will go into further detail and reveal even more information about where Final Fantasy 14 is going after Patch 7.5.

Final Fantasy 14's Letter from the Producer Live airs Friday, April 17, during which Naoki Yoshida will share some Patch 7.5 gameplay and reward details.

Final Fantasy 14 Players Should Circle April 17 On Their Calendar

Final Fantasy 14 players should mark down the third Friday of April, as Square Enix will reveal more details about the game’s immediate future.

Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival FF7 Commemorative Cash Shop Items

To commemorate these upcoming conventions, Final Fantasy 14 has revealed a series of cash shop items, all of which are temporarily on sale at a lower price.

  • Hardy-Daytona mount: $29.99 $26.99
  • Wind-up Red XIII minion: $6.99 $6.29
  • Runway Walk emote: $7 $6.30
  • Aunt Tii’s Neotunic Three-piece Set glamour: $9 $8.10
  • THE PRIMALS Orchestrion Set: $15 $13.50
  • Pulse 2 Orchestrion Roll Set 1: $15 $13.50

However, two of these items in particular – the Hardy-Daytona and the Wind-up Red XIII – are directly from Final Fantasy 7. The mount is identical to the one ridden by Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy 7 and FF7: Remake, while the Wind-up Red XIII is a miniature version of the playable companion. These items have led gamers to speculate that the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion may include multiple Final Fantasy 7 references.

Final Fantasy 14 is no stranger to both direct and indirect allusions to other games in the series, including FF7. That said, Final Fantasy 14’s FF7 references have generally been less explicit than those from other entries, and the ones that are more overt are in Final Fantasy 14 side quests or from optional FF7 content.

Major Final Fantasy 7 References in Final Fantasy 14

  • Nael van Darnus, legatus of the 7th Imperial Legion of Garlemald, shares personality traits and motives with Sephiroth, including Project Meteor, a plan to crash the moon into Eorzea.
  • Characters like Biggs, Wedge, and Jesse, and locations like Costa del Sol, Seventh Heaven, and the Beehive are taken from FF7.
  • The King Thordan trial from FF14: Heavensward references the Knights of the Round optional summon from FF7.
  • The Hades trial is inspired by the eponymous optional FF7 boss, and uses similar moves.
  • The Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, and Diamond Weapons from FF7 appear in the FF14: Shadowbringers trial quest series.
  • A sidequest from Stormblood features a Miqo’te learning about his father’s heroic sacrifice and petrification, similar to FF7’s Red XIII.
  • The Gold Saucer, the Lifestream, and Materia appear in both games.
  • Several Limit Breaks from FF7, including Braver, Final Heaven, and Satellite Beam, appear in FF14.
  • Cloud’s hair, motorcycle, and outfit from Advent Children are available in FF14.

The third installment of the Final Fantasy 7: Remake series is on the horizon. The third Remake installment will likely release during FF14‘s next expansion, so an in-game allusion would be timely. Fans will have to wait and see if these items foreshadow a direct reference or crossover event, or if they are merely just red herrings.
