Ahead of the launch of Digimon Story: Time Stranger on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles, Bandai Namco launched a free update that includes a few new features for players to try out. Thankfully, the new Digimon Story: Time Stranger patch does not require much storage space.
Since its launch in October 2025, Digimon Story: Time Stranger has received periodic updates and expansions to keep players engaged. Developer Bandai Namco has also used Time Stranger‘s update cycle to address some lingering bugs that may have slipped through the cracks. For example, the November 2025 update for Digimon Story: Time Stranger addressed several scripting issues with the game’s main story, as progression could be blocked under specific conditions.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Adds Graphics Mode Settings
Now, the best-rated Digimon game to date is even better with the July 9 update. The latest Digimon Story: Time Stranger patch added the long-awaited Graphics Mode option for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game. The feature is also included in the Switch 2 version at launch. Players can select between Quality Mode, which renders the game at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second (FPS), and Performance Mode. The latter mode scales the resolution down to 1080p, but allows frame rates to reach 60 FPS instead. Graphics mode is not available on the original Switch or Xbox Series S versions, while the Steam version of Digimon Story: Time Stranger has allowed players to customize the game’s graphics since launch.

Along with Graphics Mode, Time Stranger’s July update also included some smaller features. Terriermon, the long-eared Rookie Digimon, can now Mode Change to Terriermon Assistant. A new Photo Mode option can also be accessed during field exploration. Some issues related to Digimon Story: Time Stranger‘s endgame were also addressed in the July 9 update. One of Time Stranger‘s main story missions, “The God of Speed’s Wish”, could not be progressed under specific circumstances. Additionally, if players hit the maximum limit of 999 hours and 59 minutes of play time in their Time Stranger save file, the Digifarm’s training timer would stop progressing. After installing the July 9 update, these issues, along with some minor bugs that Bandai Namco did not list, should not be encountered.
The latest update for Digimon Story: Time Stranger came during a busy week for Bandai Namco and Digimon fans alike. Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on Nintendo consoles on July 10 and will include all the features of the July 2026 update. Players who purchase and download Digimon Story: Time Stranger via the Nintendo eShop can access the game starting at midnight Eastern on July 10. A free demo is also available for players to try out, with all save data from their respective consoles carrying over to the full release.
However, save data from the Switch version of Time Stranger cannot be used in the Switch 2 port and vice versa. Given that Digimon Story: Time Stranger will receive a major DLC expansion sometime in 2027, it remains to be seen what other changes Bandai Namco has in store for Digimon fans throughout 2026 and beyond.
