Naruto fans know the franchise has plenty in the works, from the long-awaited live-action movie to ongoing Boruto content, but those aren’t the only major projects on the horizon. It’s worth noting that it’s uncertain if this upcoming new release is tied to the original Naruto franchise or if it’s a reference to the newer Boruto franchise (and just using Naruto as a catch-all), but it’s worth noting that this is a distinct release from the recently confirmed Naruto live-action movie.
Indeed, the Naruto live-action movie was recently confirmed. Series creator Masashi Kishimoto is excited for the Naruto movie, specifically to see his work adapted into a Hollywood movie, and it is in pre-production at Lionsgate. It is being written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Marvel’s Shang-Chi, so it appears to be in capable hands. That said, some fans would prefer something else new from the Naruto franchise, and it seems new video games were recently confirmed for 2027.
New Naruto Games and More Confirmed for 2027 and Beyond
Ahead of Naruto‘s 25th anniversary in 2027, TV Tokyo has confirmed that the series will enter what it describes as a “new phase,” complete with brand-new releases planned for next year and beyond. The news comes from TV Tokyo Holdings’ FY 2025 Financial Results Briefing Q&A, published following the company’s May 2026 earnings presentation. When asked whether Naruto‘s 25th anniversary in 2027 could represent the franchise’s peak, the company instead described it as “the beginning of a new phase.” It also confirmed that multiple new projects, including brand-new Naruto video games, are already planned for 2027 and beyond. According to the statement, fans can expect:
- Brand-new Naruto games beginning in 2027
- New “video” projects tied to the franchise (perhaps then-in-reference to the live-action movie)
- Some projects are being developed alongside new partners
- Additional releases planned throughout 2027 and beyond

While TV Tokyo stopped short of revealing exactly what these projects are, the announcement makes one thing clear: Naruto’s 25th anniversary won’t simply be about looking back at the franchise’s history. A video game was suggested outright, although it’s uncertain if it’s another Ninja Storm fighting game or something else. Either way, the company is positioning 2027 as the launch of Naruto’s next era, with new games, new projects, and additional partnerships expected to keep one of anime’s biggest franchises growing well beyond its anniversary year.
Given that the Naruto franchise has been extensively explored in video games, one strong possibility is that this new video game focuses moreso on the Boruto era, although that’s pure speculation at this point. Recent games like Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections have included Boruto content, but there still hasn’t been a major AAA game built entirely around Boruto: Naruto Next Generations or Two Blue Vortex.

With the franchise entering its 25th anniversary and TV Tokyo specifically mentioning new games being developed with new partners, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bandai Namco—or another developer—use the opportunity to push the series beyond Naruto‘s story and fully embrace Boruto’s timeline. Of course, until an official announcement is made, fans should treat that as one of several possibilities rather than an indication of what’s actually in development.
