Despite the tumultuous times that Ubisoft has faced in recent years, Claude Guillemot and his brothers remained pivotal figures within the gaming industry. According to French publication Ouest-France, Guillemot was killed on Friday, June 19, when his plane crashed near the Western France commune of La Baule. The report stated that Guillemot was on board the plane alongside a flight instructor. The instructor also died in the plane crash. The plane that Guillemot was piloting was a Cessna 421 twin-engine tourist plane. Following the tragic crash, Ubisoft issued the following statement:
“Ubisoft learned with deep sadness of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and President of Guillemot Corporation, in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further statements will be made at this time.”
