Publisher Ubisoft is giving away a free copy of one of its military shooters on PC for a limited time, available now until August 13 at 3 am CT. It’s worth noting that Ubisoft is, however small in the grand scheme of things, enjoying some success with the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and is making some consumer-friendly moves as of late, with this just being the latest.
For example, Ubisoft recently announced a new partnership with Xbox that resulted in 13 of Ubisoft’s PC games becoming free to those who own Xbox copies. Yes, that means Xbox accounts that already own certain games received them for free on PC via Ubisoft Connect, and that’ll be the case moving forward for select games (and expanding). And now, Ubisoft fans can just get a military shooter game on PC completely free of charge.

Announced via Ubisoft Connect, the company is giving away copies of its 2012 military shooter Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier at absolutely no charge. Typically priced between $17.99 and $19.99, Ubisoft is basically saving PC gamers who want something new to play a lunch. PC users simply need to access Ubisoft Connect (available at the link above) and claim/download the game. However, any PC users who want to claim the free game should do so ASAP, as August 13 will sneak up sooner rather than later.

For those unfamiliar, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a tactical third-person shooter that puts players in control of an elite Ghost team trying to stop a war between the United States and Russia. It’s a pretty straightforward storyline, but it’s worth mentioning that it sounds so familiar because Future Soldier was released in 2012, and a lot of military shooters since then have made the United States heroes and Russia the villains. It includes futuristic gear, if its title didn’t give that away, like active camouflage, drones, and high-tech weapons while completing missions across locations including Africa, Russia, and the Arctic.
Interestingly, it’s not the only Ghost Recon game that fans of the franchise can pick up for free. Perhaps as a continuation or at least representation of that agreement with Xbox, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are both available to play completely free of charge on Xbox consoles thanks to Xbox’s Free Play Days promotion. It could be a coincidence, but it’s more likely to be intentional and therefore tactical.
Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites is also a major free content update that has added a new story mission, customization features, and current upgrades to the beloved Ubisoft open-world game. Ubisoft is stirring so much up around the Ghost Recon franchise because it has also confirmed it’s working on a new release, although exact details are still scarce. Fans can just know that the Ghost Team returns soon.
