Upcoming Halloween Multiplayer Game Reveals New Details

Developer Illfonic has provided more details about what players can expect from its upcoming Halloween 1-vs-4 multiplayer game. Fans of the legendary horror movie series will likely recognize some of Michael Myers’ abilities as he stalks and terrorizes his way across the Haddonfield neighborhood. Halloween will release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 8, 2026.

After over a decade as a playable character in Dead by Daylight, Michael Myers is stepping into his own video game to murder the inhabitants of Haddonfield. Based on the 1978 film, the asymmetrical horror Halloween game centers on tension and survival, giving players the choice to either take on the role of the notorious serial killer or attempt to survive him on Halloween night as one of several playable Civilians. The Civilians will need to work together in order to last the night, convincing Haddonfield locals of the impending danger before getting them to safety and then escaping themselves. Civilians will have to hide and outwit the player controlling Michael Myers, who has a suite of supernatural abilities at their disposal to hunt down their prey.

Halloween: The Game Confirms Release Date, But There’s a Catch

Michael Myers returns in Halloween: The Game, but there is some disappointing news for players expecting to dive into it this October.

Michael Myers’ Abilities and Survivor Gameplay Detailed in Latest Trailer

Illfonic revealed exactly what kind of abilities Michael Myers and the playable Civilians will have as they face off against one another in a March 26 multiplayer gameplay deep dive. Seen in the trailer, Michael Myers is designed to feel like a constant threat, capable of stalking and applying pressure throughout the match as he hunts down every living soul in Haddonfield. The Michael player will also get enhanced rewards for killing special civilian targets within a specified timeframe.

As Michael, players will have access to abilities like Killer Sense, which literally puts the player inside the mask, complete with heavy breathing to immerse the player. The skill gives the killer hyper awareness, letting them build Stalk. The more Stalk the player builds, the easier it is for them to track their targets, and the more elaborate executions they’ll have access to. While similar games like Friday the 13: The Game have unfortunately shut down, the massive popularity of Dead by Daylight highlights that there’s a significant player base for games like Halloween.

In a blog post Illfonic published alongside the gameplay trailer, the developer described Myers as a creeping, methodical killer. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll be a slow, shambling threat that’s easily outmaneuvered. Rather, Michael players will be able to use an ability called Shape Jump to vastly increase their mobility. It essentially allows him to sprint around the map to appear behind his victims, so long as they’re not in a light source. The developer said this ability should help create the iconic jump-scare moments that the Halloween franchise is known for. While it certainly looks like the scales are tipped in favor of the supernatural killing machine, the Civilian players will have some tricks of their own.

While avoiding Michael, Civilians are tasked with convincing their neighbors of their impending doom and then helping them escape through several possible randomized exits across the map. According to the developer, each Civilian will have unique stats, special traits, and personalities. Civilians will need to sneak around the map, utilizing distractions and hiding spots, to avoid Michael Myers. There are also loot containers to find that provide items, including weapons and flashlights.

Light is one of the Civilian’s most powerful defenses against the killer. They can also contact the local authorities, who can make it harder for Michael Myers to get around. Once the Haddonfield residents are safely evacuated, it’s time for the players to take their leave. Interestingly, even if a player is killed by Michael, they’ll still have a chance to influence the outcome of the match. Players can return to help their friends as a Sheriff’s Deputy or as Dr. Loomis, who fans of the movies will no doubt recognize. If hiding doesn’t pan out, players can also band together to kill Michael with melee weapons, though it looks like pure evil isn’t so easily defeated. Halloween joins a growing and impressive list of horror games releasing in 2026.

With this latest gameplay reveal, Halloween is showing off how it’s translating the tense atmosphere found in the original 1978 Halloween movie into an interactive player experience. By combining asymmetrical multiplayer design with a strong emphasis on an ever-present, seemingly unstoppable Michael Myers, the game seems to be positioning itself as a faithful adaptation that still leaves room for emergent gameplay. In a similar vein of faithful adaptations, the upcoming Hellraiser: Revival hasn’t had to pull any punches, either. The recent gameplay appears to offer a multiplayer experience built around suspense, strategy, and the enduring appeal of one of horror’s most recognizable villains.
