The United States Senate has officially launched a new investigation into Roblox and how well the game protects children. Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Cyberterrorism sent an official letter to Roblox CEO David Baszucki, alleging the company had failed to properly protect its users. The letter requests that Baszucki provide information about Roblox‘s methods for handling child safety, sexual and physical abuse, and the financial exploitation of underage children. The Senate members even suggested that Roblox has placed a greater focus on the game’s revenue than the protection of its users.

The new investigation from the United States Senate has already prompted a response from senior Roblox officials. Roblox Chief Safety Officer, Matt Kaufman, stated that the company is “built on the foundation of safety” regarding its playerbase. Kaufman expressed the company’s optimism in presenting the information to the Senate members about the efforts Roblox takes to keep its younger users safe. The legal investigation gives the Roblox Corporation a deadline of August 31 to formally respond to the Senate’s requests, with further legal action likely if Roblox fails to meet the deadline.
The Senate members’ investigation is far from the first similar actions against Roblox in recent years. Multiple U.S. state and local governments filed lawsuits against Roblox and the Roblox Corporation throughout 2025 and 2026, including the states of Louisiana, Texas, and Los Angeles County. Popular legal YouTuber Law by Mike even joined a lawsuit against Roblox in late 2025 for similar reasons, taking action against the company’s alleged failures to protect children who use the platform.
The growing controversies surrounding Roblox have even seen some regions choose to restrict access to the game entirely. Countries like Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt have all instituted bans against Roblox over child safety and child exploitation concerns, particularly citing the ability for children to interact with strangers online. Roblox has also been involved in a growing trend in social media bans for underage users, with other countries like Brazil and Indonesia restricting what content younger users can access on the platform. Roblox continues to find itself embroiled in legal disputes as the push for online child safety intensifies worldwide.
