Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains one of the biggest upcoming games under Warner Bros., and the company has provided an update on the highly anticipated sequel. The original Hogwarts Legacy was a massive success when it launched in 2023, becoming the year’s best-selling game and giving Harry Potter fans the opportunity to explore Hogwarts and its surrounding areas in an open-world RPG. To no surprise, that success made a sequel almost inevitable, although Warner Bros. has revealed very little about what comes next.
A lot has changed since the initial release of Hogwarts Legacy. One of those changes involves Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which is bringing the two companies’ gaming operations together under a single division. WB Games and Paramount Games Studio are being combined, and the merger could have a significant impact on upcoming games like Hogwarts Legacy. Luckily, Hogwarts Legacy 2 appears to remain an important part of those plans, with Warner Bros. acknowledging the sequel.
WB’s Statement Confirms Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in Development
In a letter to shareholders, Warner Bros. confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains in its upcoming lineup, identifying the sequel as an important part of its efforts to grow the gaming business. The letter also supports the belief of established IPs that Warner Bros. is doubling down on, namely DC, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones. Regardless, while a lot of projects remain unconfirmed, Warner Bros. specifically mentioned the in-development second Hogwarts Legacy game:
“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”
Interestingly, previous Avalanche Software job listings have offered some potential clues about what players can expect from Hogwarts Legacy 2. One listing for a Lead World Designer suggested that familiar faces from the Harry Potter universe could appear in the sequel. Other listings have pointed toward more advanced character interactions and storytelling, but perhaps the biggest mention in job listings for Hogwarts Legacy 2 suggests there will be multiplayer, specifically asking for matchmaking, multiplayer lobby, and online infrastructure experience.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean Hogwarts Legacy 2 will feature multiplayer, as Avalanche could be developing another project entirely. However, the possibility of exploring Hogwarts with friends, participating in cooperative activities, or even competing against other students would represent a major change from the original game’s single-player open-world RPG experience.
The bigger question now is when Warner Bros. will finally show Hogwarts Legacy 2. The Game Awards on December 10 would be one possible opportunity, especially considering the company’s history of making announcements at major gaming events. Plus, Harry Potter movies are essentially Christmas movies anyway, so the season is fitting. Regardless, the latest statement is encouraging for anyone waiting to return to Hogwarts.
