Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was revealed at The Game Awards 2022, and we’ve heard little about it since, so it would make sense for this year’s showcase to include a big new reveal for Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-adventure. But the studio says that won’t be happening. In fact, fans shouldn’t expect new information until 2027.
“The team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet,” studio head Neil Druckmann wrote in an update on Naughty Dog’s website. “There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we’re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory. But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer.”
The sci-fi game is set 2,000 years in the future in an alternate universe where space travel became common in the 1980s. A bounty hunter named Jordan gets trapped on an alien planet while tracking a criminal syndicate and begins to uncover its history and secrets while stranded. That’s about all we know about the game, and Naughty Dog is facing sky-high expectations after going basically an entire console generation without releasing a new game.

While Naughty Dog isn’t tempering players’ expectations for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which it has already done a lot of work to hype up, Druckmann is tempering expectations about when fans will finally learn more. “So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year,” he continued. “In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”
The news comes shortly after a video began to spread of Last of Us actor Troy Baker, who is also in the game, telling an audience that the Intergalactic was going to “blow” their minds, and that the studio was once again pushing past its creative limits. “You are not ready,” he said.
Fans will have plenty of time to get ready, however, especially if Intergalactic doesn’t end up releasing in 2027. “We know it’s been a long time since we’ve had much to share with you,” Druckmann wrote. “We don’t take your continued support for granted. We’re working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience.”
