Hades 2 developer Supergiant Games has praised a fan-made mod, Zagreus’ Journey, recently released for the PC version of the game. Hades 2 has been a major success for Supergiant Games since its release in September 2025, particularly on PC and Steam, where it currently holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” average review score.

The first Hades game was also an award-winning hit, earning several prestigious awards, including Best Indie and Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2020. Now, the Zagreus’ Journey mod, which has caught the attention of both Supergiant Games and fans, builds on the popularity of both Hades titles to offer hours of new gameplay.

Nemesis is My Favorite Hades 2 Character, But I Prioritize Getting this Keepsake Above All Else

Hades 2 is packed with larger-than-life characters, and while Nemesis is my favorite, it’s not her Keepsake I go after first when starting a new game.

Zagreus’ Journey Is the Collision of the Two Hades Games

Sharing the trailer for the mod’s 1.0 version launch, Supergiant Games expressed surprise at how well the fan-created content looks, encouraging fans to check it out. “We’re blown away by this user-created mod,” the developer wrote. Developed by NikkelM, the Hades 2 mod lets players experience the first game’s campaign as Melinoe, the protagonist of Hades 2. It effectively merges the original game’s settings, biomes, enemies, and encounters with the sequel’s weapons, abilities, and skills.

According to the developer, “Zagreus’ Journey […] adds the original route Zagreus took through Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium, and the Temple of Styx in the first game to the sequel.” The mod also introduces new encounters and incantations, prophecies, cosmetics, and Chaos Trials.

Zagreus’ Journey has been downloaded over 10,000 times so far, with fans praising its creativity. One of the most common compliments is how the mod expands the second game’s replayability while adding a completely new way to experience the Hades 2 story. “This is so well-made that I thought it was official,” one fan comment reads, while another adds, “I hope the devs see this and contact you to make this an official DLC.” The developers have now indeed seen the mod and have shared nothing but kind words about it.

One thing players should keep in mind is that Zagreus’ Journey requires both Hades games to be installed on the same device. They can be purchased from separate stores, but the first game must remain unmodded, as Zagreus’ Journey relies on its original files to function within Hades 2. On the positive side, the mod also works on Steam Deck. Hades 2 has been especially popular on Valve’s handheld, even winning Best Steam Deck Game at the 2025 Steam Awards. Having one of its dev-approved mods available on the platform is likely to excite many players.

Supergiant Games appears to be working on more hotfixes following the recent Post-Launch Patch 2 for Hades 2. While the studio has stated that “[Hades 3] is not preordained,” many fans believe a third installment is likely, given the undeniable success of the previous two games. Hades 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and both Nintendo Switch consoles.
