The annual Summer Game Fest showcase officially goes live next month and sets the stage for some of the year’s biggest announcements. Summer Game Fest essentially picked up E3’s banner, becoming the premier event for both game reveals and playable demos. Last year’s broadcast had a few big surprises up its sleeve, and there are hopes that this year will be able to one-up when it comes to announcements.
Right now, the confirmed Summer Game Fest games are mostly being kept under wraps, at least when it comes to the main event. Several smaller showcases serve as extra add-ons to Summer Game Fest’s spotlight, and some of them have been less secretive about their lineups. Summer Game Fest has remained really tight-lipped, though. Despite the secrecy, there are a few things that gamers can expect from the main showcase when it airs on June 5.

Summer Game Fest’s Lineup Might Be a Mystery, But There Are a Few Staples
Game announcements, updates like DLC and content drop reveals, and ads for other related projects that may not necessarily be games should be expected. The games are usually a blend of AAA blockbusters and smaller titles, but most of the indie projects are usually saved for auxiliary events like the indie showcase Day of the Devs. Last year proved to be a pleasant surprise. After a clever fake-out from Capcom that claimed Resident Evil Requiem wasn’t going to be part of the event, it turned out to be the closing announcement. There are already rumors that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake announcement will happen at this year’s showcase, but this should be taken with a grain of salt. Beyond that, this year’s Summer Game Fest may have a few major AAA titles that have been anticipated for a long time.
The list of confirmed playable demos includes titles like Valor Mortis, Erosion, Don’t Fret, and Way to the Woods.
A handful of titles that gamers have been waiting years for, hopefully, make an appearance. While there isn’t really any guarantee that these games will be present, it would make a lot of sense for new trailers to be revealed at Summer Game Fest. Games like the next Mass Effect, Judas, the Knights of the Old Republic remake, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 have been kept in the shadows, and it would be great to finally see something from them.
There is also the rumored FromSoftware pirate game to consider. More realistic possibilities are games like Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Control Resonant, Tides of Annihilation, and another potential look at Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Any of these would still be pretty exciting. However, when it comes to console exclusives, the main Summer Game Fest showcase may find itself lacking.
PlayStation and Xbox Are Bookending Summer Game Fest With Their Own Showcases

The next Sony State of Play event was recently announced, and the Xbox Games Showcase has traditionally been held after Summer Game Fest. These two being on opposite sides of Summer Game Fest is fascinating, as it adds even more excitement to the week. Xbox Games Showcase will likely feature games like Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and potentially even Hideo Kojima’s Xbox-exclusive horror project OD. What’s definitely known for sure is that gamers will finally get a new look at Gears of War: E-Day, as a deep dive will broadcast right after the main Xbox showcase.
PlayStation, on the other hand, is a little bit more mysterious. One game that would be an obvious part of the event’s lineup is Marvel’s Wolverine. There is the potential for some wildcards, though. There have been a lot of rumors about a God of War game starring Faye circulating, and the State of Play would be the best place to announce it. Other in-development exclusives like Kena: Scars of Kosmora and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could reveal new trailers too.
Oh, Yeah…One More Thing
This is the go-to Geoff Keighley phrase that can either ignite major hype or disappointment. Last year’s Game Awards turned out to be one of the most infamous “one more thing” moments. Keighley closed out the awards ceremony with the announcement trailer for the then-unknown live service hero shooter Highguard. This caused a lot of controversy and confusion, since the “one more thing” bit is usually reserved for huge reveals, like Summer Game Fest 2025’s RE Requiem teaser. The game was set to launch a month later in January 2026. Developer Wildlight Entertainment would eventually go on to shut down Highguard 45 days after its launch due to a lack of interest from gamers.
Whatever the final announcement at this year’s Summer Game Fest is, it has to make up for the Highguard debacle. The big question is what that game could possibly be. Many gamers are probably crossing their fingers for plenty of different projects. As much as people are eager for more GTA 6 news, it’s unlikely to happen at the event. Rockstar tends to do things its own way and doesn’t really rely on these showcases for promotion. Summer Game Fest is shrouded in a thick blanket of mystery at the moment, which makes it that much more intriguing.
