Starting on October 27, Blizzard allowed World of Warcraft: Forever players to reserve character names ahead of launch, but many are running into bugs and issues. Blizzard’s new game had been leaked and rumored for months before its official release as “Classic Plus,” a sort of hybrid between the retail version of World of Warcraft and the vanilla experience from over 20 years ago. The game was finally announced at BlizzCon, with a restricted-access beta that went live in mid-September and closed just a week ago. Now, World of Warcraft: Forever is launching in just a few days.
World of Warcraft: Forever’s Name Reservation System is Officially Bugged
WoW: Forever‘s name reservation system went live on Tuesday and had a rough start, with the automatic name filter being overly strict in applying rules, but issues seem to continue even after an official fix. Fans couldn’t save their changes and instead got an error message saying “Character creation timed out,” and then were unable to reserve their chosen names. This has since been partly fixed, with Blizzard reporting through Community Manager Kaivax that non-profane names and names not identical to major Warcraft characters like Sylvanas or Malfurion were blocked, but others should go through. Many players are still reporting issues on social media, though, and trying to reserve names for mains or alts in World of Warcraft: Forever can yield frustrating results due to strict mature language filters or due to names even remotely similar to NPCs, such as with the word “nurse,” as reported by a fan named Nursejoy. “Doctor” and “goblin” also seem to be off-limits.
