The base gold cost to save outfit appearances using the new Transmog system introduced in the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Expansion Update has been cut in half. These gold-saving changes are officially live in World of Warcraft as of a recent hotfix.
The Transmog system was completely overhauled in the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Expansion Update on January 20. Rather than paying to change the appearance of gear individually as it was before, this new system allows players to set up outfits ahead of time that automatically update the appearance of any items as they are equipped. While this would theoretically save money in the long run, it has a steep buy-in cost, as outfit slots must be purchased with Gold, and Transmog prices were increased around the board.

World of Warcraft is making tons of changes with its Midnight expansion, and one of the worst classes in the game’s history is better than you think.
World of Warcraft Outfit Transmog Costs Reduced by 50%
Now, World of Warcraft has implemented a change that will help fans adapt to this new Transmog system while saving money. A new hotfix recently went live that has reduced the average cost of saving items in outfits by about 50%. For example, an outfit that previously cost 2,776 gold before this hotfix now only costs 1,388 to save.
This hotfix brings the current cost of Transmogging an appearance to roughly where it was before these changes were implemented, albeit in a way that doesn’t need to be refreshed each time a new item is obtained. However, costs are now the same at all levels, meaning characters below the max level in WoW will have to spend hundreds more gold than before in order to save an outfit. Additionally, there will not be any refunds for players who already saved outfits before these changes.
The Ethereal Connection racial ability for Void Elves reduces the cost of setting up an outfit by an additional 50%.
Of note, the cost of purchasing new outfit slots has not been affected by this hotfix. That said, World of Warcraft already drastically reduced the cost of buying them between beta and its full release, and also made them account-wide unlocks.
Despite these improvements, World of Warcraft fans may still want to wait to fix all of their Transmogs. WoW recently revealed every character would be getting a free Transmog rebate to let them set up a single outfit at no cost. This freebie will be delivered automatically to characters before the 12.0.1 update, meaning they will likely see it within the next few weeks at the latest.
How Does the Trial of Style Work in World of Warcraft Now?
The Trial of Style is a semi-annual event that takes place around March and August of each year, and features a fashion contest minigame and exclusive World of Warcraft cosmetics as rewards. Previously, all Transmogging was free during these periods, leading players to also dub the event as “Mog Week.”
Unfortunately, this will no longer be the case with the new Transmog system in World of Warcraft. In the same forum post where this change was announced, WoW community manager Linxy also cleared the air on how the Trial of Style will work from now on. Rather than all Transmog costs being waived, each character will get a special Trial of Style outfit slot that can be updated for free during the week-long event for use in the contest. Sadly, the slot will be removed at the event’s conclusion, meaning it will not help alleviate the costs of Transmogging in a permanent sense.
The next Trial of Style takes place on March 20, so fans will be able to see this system in action soon. World of Warcraft: Midnight releases on March 2, so players will have about two weeks to collect all sorts of new Transmogs to use during the fashion contest.
