WoW's Pricey Transmog Overhaul Just Got Way Cheaper

World of Warcraft transmog prices are about to get slashed, with Blizzard announcing a 50% cost reduction to outfit creation prices.

The pre-patch for WoW’s Midnight expansion arrived on January 20 and brought major system updates to Blizzard’s MMORPG, including an overhaul of its transmog system. In theory, the update makes the system more convenient with persistent looks, more outfit slots, and cheaper costs in the long term for those who frequently change the look of their gear.

However, ever since the pre-patch dropped and brought new changes to the system, players who want a large number of possible outfits have faced major gold costs. In fact, those high costs that have been a point of contention as far back as the Midnight beta.

It looks like Blizzard is finally listening to player complaints, but only after another blunder that upset the community. The pre-patch made it so players needed to pay gold in order to retain their current transmog look, something Blizzard in a recent forum post from community manager Kaivax said was an “oversight” on Blizzard’s part. As a make-good, Blizzard announced that sometime prior to Midnight’s launch on March 2, all players will receive one free transmog that will apply to the next outfit created for each character.

In another forum post update the following day, Blizzard went a step further. As detailed by community manager Linxy, outfit creation prices across the board will be reduced by 50%, with the change going into effect in the next few days. Transmog outfit prices after the change should be “more in line with what the prices were prior to the transmog update,” according to Blizzard.

The post additionally said Blizzard will be looking to roll out its free transmog apology via a hotfix that will arrive as soon as possible, rather than in a few weeks with the launch of Midnight and update 12.0.1.

The transmog system overhaul isn’t the only big change in Midnight’s pre-patch. It also introduced a significant change in rules regarding player-made mods, user interface improvements like a built-in damage meter and boss callouts, neighborhood events for player housing, and a new Void-themed Demon Hunter specialization.

While the Midnight pre-patch is live now, its pre-expansion Twilight Ascension event doesn’t start until January 27. Midnight proper releases on March 2, and will add a new story campaign, zones, dungeons, and more. Those who purchase the expansion’s Epic edition get three-day early access.
