The intellectual property rights to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers have been purchased by Italian video game company Digital Bros in a deal that equates to roughly $4.7 million USD. Digital Bros serves as parent company to 505 Games, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers‘ original publisher, and the fresh acquisition may potentially lead to further post-launch developments down the line.
Released in late July 2025, the Soulslike action-RPG developed by Leenzee received mixed reviews from the gaming community but still built up a solid player base. With an all-time peak of more than 86,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, many fans have come to appreciate Wuchang: Fallen Feathers‘ hard-to-beat bosses, fluid combat, highly customizable skill trees, and gorgeous dark fantasy interpretation of Ming Dynasty-era China.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Bought By 505 Games’ Parent Company
Now, a new owner has stepped forth to claim the rights to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Digital Bros has announced that it has closed an acquisition deal for RMB 32 million (roughly 4 million euros or $4.7 million USD) that enables “full retention of the value generated throughout its lifecycle and eliminating any future royalty obligations to the developer.” The deal has reportedly gone through without dispute from either side, and the full acquisition follows the company’s strategic policy of enhancing the “long-term value creation” of its products. 505 Games is the main publisher under Digital Bros’ umbrella, and its popular published titles include Dead by Daylight, Terraria, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Payday 2, and the PC release of Death Stranding.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers tells the tale of pirate Bai Wuchang, who fights against a supernatural affliction known as The Feathering as she attempts to resurrect her younger sister through a special artifact hidden in her homeland of Shu. The influence of Chinese mythology on Wuchang: Fallen Feathers through its mythical elements, inclusion of folklore, and historical setting, makes it a memorable Soulslike for many fans.
The purchase of the IP follows the unexpected dissolution of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers‘ development team, which was first reported near the middle of April. The elimination of the development team at Leenzee, for which Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was its first and only major game, followed the dismissal of studio director Xia Siyuan, who was reportedly fired shortly before the lunar new year on February 17. Details are still scarce as to why the studio was fully disbanded, but some reports suggest failure to outsource key development team duties in the wake of the former director’s departure and the ignoring of an alleged ultimatum to outsource such work were major factors.

The acquisition announcement may also stir up some hope that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers may have additional content or even a sequel in its plans. The announcement from Digital Bros noted that the game had sold more than 1 million copies as of the end of March, resulting in more than the equivalent of $35 million USD in total net revenue. The company also mentioned the IP’s “long-term potential” and brought up its “future development and related investments,” meaning players may have something to look forward to besides the previous post-launch updates to fix Wuchang: Fallen Feathers‘ early performance issues. However, fans shouldn’t expect anything in the short-term future, as the statement goes on to say that Digital Bros expects “no significant impact” on its outlook for the current fiscal year.
