After years of legal battles, multiverse shenanigans, and Jean Grey’s proper debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we now have a cast for the MCU’s version of the X-Men.
The announcement came as part of Disney’s D23 presentation, and confirmed a few rumors that had been circulating about potential casting for the past few months. Sadie Sink is reprising her role as Jean Grey after coming out swinging onto the scene in Brand New Day, with Kit Connor and Samara Weaving finally being confirmed to play Cyclops and Emma Frost respectively.
Joining the already announced actors is Obsession‘s breakout star Inde Navarrette, who will play Rogue, Broadway actor Maya Boyd as Storm, and Girls actor Christopher Abbott as Professor X. Star Wars actor Adam Driver is rounding out the film as villain Mr. Sinister. So there are still quite a few X-Men staples missing from the confirmed line-up. No word on Wolverine, Magneto or any of the Brotherhood Mutants? It will be interesting to see if those announcements come later or if the X-Men movie won’t focus on Professor X and Magneto’s philosophical struggle. I suppose Marvel’s not in any hurry to recast Logan after Hugh Jackman owned the role for over 20 years. So it might be some time before we see a new Wolverine in the MCU.
