Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated on social media that she saw a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 6 during the morning of August 11. The Elder Scrolls 6 currently has no known subtitle or release date as of this writing.
Following its first official reveal in 2018, developer Bethesda Game Studios has not shared many details about The Elder Scrolls 6. The next entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise entered active development at Bethesda following the 2023 launch of Starfield. Although Microsoft laid off several staffers from its subsidiary game studios in July, Bethesda’s internal scheduling for The Elder Scrolls 6 was mostly unaffected by the recent layoffs. However, Bethesda Game Studios still saw some staff members let go from their positions.
Xbox CEO Gets a Glimpse at The Elder Scrolls 6
Although The Elder Scrolls 6 is still be years away, Xbox’s CEO has already laid eyes on Bethesda’s upcoming RPG. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted on Twitter that she attended a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 6. Sharma called the scale and grandeur of TES 6 “incredible” and praised the game’s story as “greater” than the game’s massive scale. Additionally, Sharma teased that The Elder Scrolls 6 may already have a subtitle, as indicated by the eight asterisks in her posts. In response to Sharma’s thoughts, some users debated whether the eight asterisks were the exact letter count of The Elder Scrolls 6‘s subtitle or just used as placeholders.
It is unclear if Sharma had a hands-on demonstration of The Elder Scrolls 6, or if she was shown a video presentation of a recorded playthrough by Bethesda. Bethesda director and producer Todd Howard revealed in late July that both Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6 would utilize Bethesda’s Creation Engine 3 rather than Starfield’s Creation Engine 2. Howard said that Creation Engine 3 allowed Bethesda to craft stable builds that can be thoroughly tested internally. Although Bethesda and Virtuos used Unreal Engine 5 to create The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Howard said that making The Elder Scrolls 6 in Creation Engine 3 allowed Bethesda to control things on its terms.
Following Sharma’s takeover as Xbox CEO, the company shared a renewed interest in making some of its releases console exclusive to Xbox. Although Halo: Campaign Evolved saw a day-one launch on PS5 alongside PC and Xbox consoles, upcoming titles like Clockwork Revolution and Gears of War: E-Day will be console exclusive to Xbox. Bethesda has not officially confirmed whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be ported outside of Microsoft’s ecosystem, as development is still ongoing. Given that The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim was a multiplatform launch in 2011, it remains to be seen if The Elder Scrolls 6 will follow suit.
Sharma’s Twitter post came the same day as the Switch 2 launch of Oblivion Remastered. Players can now experience the Unreal Engine 5 remake of one of the more popular entries in The Elder Scrolls franchise, which includes a physical Game Card release.
