Pokemon Champions will be giving away free Mega Stones for specific Pokemon to players for performing transfers from Pokemon Legends: Z-A. There already looks to be a few surprises involving Mega Evolution in Pokemon Champions, and the opportunity to Mega Evolve four different Pokemon just from sending them over from another game could be a great way to get players started.
Nintendo recently revealed that the official launch date for Pokemon Champions on Nintendo Switch will be on April 7, 2026, with a version for iOS and Android phones coming at a later date. The free-to-start Pokemon game will take place in an arena-like format, focusing almost exclusively on battles, with options to play in ranked, casual, or private matches. Players will also be able to challenge each other in cross-platform action once the mobile version releases, and the game will include both single and double battles featuring teams of six Pokemon.
Some Fans Will Get to Play Pokemon Champions Before Others
Lucky players will get a chance to play Pokemon Champions ahead of the game’s release next month on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.
Legends: Z-A Pokemon With Free Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions
- Chesnaught
- Delphox
- Greninja
- Eternal Flower Floette
One aspect that the development team at The Pokemon Works has been hyping up in the days leading up to launch is the inclusion of Mega Evolution in Pokemon Champions, and a new announcement reveals how the game will make it easier for players to get their hands on some early Mega Stones. The official Nintendo of America Twitter account shared information stating that players can get free Mega Stones for transferring the fully evolved forms of the original Kalos starters from Pokemon Legends: Z-A to the Pokemon Home app, then sending them over to Pokemon Champions. Doing so will allow players to potentially collect the Mega Stones required to Mega Evolve Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught, along with Eternal Flower Floette.

Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught have been around since Pokemon X and Y, and they fit right into Pokemon Legends: Z-A, as both games take place inside the Pokemon world’s Kalos region. Though the Pokemon it’s based on has been around just as long, Eternal Flower Floette is a unique Pokemon that first became available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A and can only be obtained once per run. In order to get an Eternal Flower Floette, players will need to have already completed the game’s main story, then rack up at least 50,000 Combat Points in the Infinite Z-A Royale, pick up a Challenger’s Ticket, and finally, clear 15 different Reward Matches against top trainers.
A key feature of Pokemon Champions is its compatibility with Pokemon Home, an app that allows for storage and easy transfer of Pokemon between several different games in the franchise. Fans will be able to play Pokemon Champions without Pokemon Home access, as the game will allow them to perform recruitment actions to obtain new Pokemon for one week at a time, and they will be able to spend Victory Points to get more recruitments or to make their recruited Pokemon permanent additions to their roster. However, the draw of bringing in Pokemon from games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a strong one. It allows for continued adventures with these Pokemon and lets players power them up with additional training, including changing their abilities and adjusting their stats, even if the training results don’t show up outside Pokemon Champions.
Giving away free Mega Stones is only one way that Pokemon Champions is attracting players through the allure of Mega Evolution. A newly released trailer for the game also noted that certain Mega Evolved Pokemon will be able to obtain powerful Pokemon abilities, which will be exclusive to Pokemon Champions. There is no comprehensive list of these exclusive abilities at this time, but ones that have been previewed include Mega Feraligatr’s Dragonize, which turns all Normal-type moves into Dragon-type moves, and Mega Meganium’s Mega Sol, which mimics the effects of harsh sunlight and lets moves like Solar Beam be launched without a charge-up round.
