In a recent interview, Amazon’s General Manager of Gaming, Jeff Gattis, stated that it “seems like a sequel should be made” following the successful launch of 007 First Light. In the same interview, Gattis also walked back the comment he made last week that seemingly suggested that Amazon Game Studios would publish future James Bond games, including any potential sequels to 007 First Light.
Released on May 27, 007 First Light is enjoying a very successful launch window. From a critical standpoint, 007 First Light currently sits at a Top Critic Average of 88 on OpenCritic, and has a recommendation score of 97%. GameRant’s own Dalton Cooper gave 007 First Light an 8/10 in his review, stating that the action-adventure game is a “strong return to form for Bond, and one of his better games to date.” 007 First Light is also shaping up to be quite the commercial success, with 1.5 million copies sold in its first 24 hours, and 3 million copies sold as of June 7. And it seems Amazon may be looking to capitalize on this success sooner rather than later.

Amazon’s Head of Gaming Thinks 007 First Light Sequel “Should Be Made”
At the start of May, a few weeks before 007 First Light‘s launch, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak spoke with The Game Business’ Christopher Dring. During the interview, Abrak stated that Amazon “became huge supporters” of 007 First Light after they played the game for themselves, and that a sequel to the latest James Bond game could be on the cards “if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community.”

On June 3, a week after 007 First Light‘s launch, Amazon’s General Manager of Gaming, Jeff Gattis, spoke with Polygon about the possibility of future James Bond video games. Gattis stated that development on 007 First Light was already well underway before Amazon acquired the James Bond IP in February 2025, but that the conglomerate does now “have a stake in it.” In this interview, Gattis also said that future James Bond video game projects would be “done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios.”
On June 8, IGN spoke with Jeff Gattis. Upon being asked about his June 3 statement that suggested future Bond games would be made by Amazon Game Studios, Gattis replied, “let me set the record straight for you…I did not confirm that Amazon Game Studios is publishing the next one. Did not say that.” Gattis goes on to say that IO Interactive have “been great partners,” and that 007 First Light is “doing great” and that the game should be left to “breathe and have its day.”

Upon being asked about a sequel to 007 First Light, Gattis told IGN, “As long as we feel there’s a desire for players to have the game, it’s safe to say it’s going to be made.” And after further prompting, Gattis said that it “Seems like a sequel should be made.” As IGN points out, this isn’t an official confirmation that 007 First Light is going to get a sequel, nor a confirmation that a potential sequel would be made by IO Interactive. But it’s still a very hopeful sign for James Bond‘s video game future.
