Updated on May 11, 2026, by Mark Sammut: We have updated all the prices and added two more games (Demon Pit and 1001 Spikes). The data is accurate as of May 11, 2026.

When somebody thinks “rare games,” PlayStation 4 titles are probably not the first to come to mind. We associated this type of stuff with classic consoles like the PS2 or SNES; you know, systems that are part of ancient rather than recent history. However, the PS4 has been fading into the background for a couple of years now, causing the prices to steadily rise as certain games become harder to track. More importantly, by this generation, publishers understood the power of collector’s items, resulting in a steep increase in special editions that existed specifically so they would one day become rare.

Even though we are focusing just on the most expensive NTSC PS4 games, the lineup is still full of absurd prices that hover around or exceed $1,000. Yeah, if you want to pick up a “complete in box” version of these releases, you will need to do more than just crack open your wallet.

All prices are taken from PriceCharting.com except where noted. We are also including everything, so special editions will be highlighted. Most of the rarest PS4 products are those types of limited-run releases.

1001 Spikes

CIB Price: $799.87

Loose

$584.23

Complete in Box

$799.87

New

$1,040

Oh, boy, let’s start with a complicated one. 1001 Spikes is a PS4 and Vita game that simultaneously received and didn’t receive a physical version. As legend has it, copies were sent out as promotional material, but a proper release never followed; consequently, only a small handful have ever been available, and each one sells for considerable cash. If anything, it has gotten cheaper in the last two years, as it used to go for above $1000.

The Rarest Game Boy Games (& How Much They’re Worth)

The classic Game Boy had some great titles in its library. These are the rarest of the bunch.

Nicalis has largely ceased publishing games in the last few years, with the most recent one being 2022’s The Legend of Bum-bo. The company is still alive, but calling it “active” might be a bit of a stretch at this point. In October 2024, Nicalis announced a 10th Anniversary Edition of 1001 Spikes, but as far as I can tell, it never came out. At the very least, I can’t find a copy.

Demon Pit Gold Cover

CIB Price: $834.62

Loose

$775

Complete in Box

$834.62

New

$1,085

If you are looking for just a standard version of Demon Pit, you really shouldn’t be spending more than $40, at least for the PS4. The boomer shooter is also available on other systems and Steam, so even $40 would be overpaying. However, LimitedRunGames released 60 copies with gold covers, making it comfortably one of the rarest PS4 games ever. Well, technically, it is one of the rarest PS4 game covers ever, as the only difference is just the color. This is not a traditional special edition that comes with any extras, but the fact that there are only 60 elevates Demon Pit to collector’s status.

The game itself is mostly fine, although it is just another FPS throwback. We have received way too many of those types of games in the last decade, and Demon Pit doesn’t really stand out. Honestly, if LimitedRunGames hadn’t done this stunt, I am pretty sure Demon Pit would have been wiped completely from history by now. If nothing else, the game at least appears in these types of articles.

Assassin’s Creed Origins: Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition

CIB Price: $838.46

Rarest PS4 Games- AC Origins Legendary Edition

Loose

$753.84

Complete in Box

$838.46

New

$1,090

Assassin’s Creed Origins revealed how the Assassin Brotherhood was formed in its earliest days by Bayek of Siwa, a Medjay in Ptolemaic Egypt, during its struggle between Pharaoh Ptolemy the 13th, the ousted Cleopatra the 7th, and Julius Caesar’s Roman Republic. It got a decent reception and certainly gave fans more of its signature stealth action gameplay. Though it could give them more, and for a hefty sum, it did via the Assassin’s Creed Origins: Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition.

Exclusive to the Ubisoft store, it offered the game, its season pass, an artbook, a world map, art cards, the game’s soundtrack, lithographs, a steelbook case, a resin version of Bayek’s amulet, and a 73cm/28.7 inch resin figure of Bayek and his eagle Senu. It’s all a fan could want, but it would cost them $800 on release to get it. As such, its current complete going price of $838 is only a slight increase over its original cost. Though, depending on its quality, it can go for $900 complete, or even well over $1,000.

NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Cover Edition

CIB Price: $848.98

Loose

$763.41

Complete in Box

$848.98

New

$1,104

Travis Scott isn’t the oddest celebrity collaboration the NBA 2K series has had (Spike Lee directed a whole story mode for NBA 2K16). He’s part of the game’s soundtrack and is pretty into basketball himself. Though, would even the biggest NBA 2K fan break out nearly $1,000 for a copy of a ~7-year-old game that happens to have his face on it?

The NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Cover Edition doesn’t come with any fancy extras, season passes, or resin figures. It’s just the same game, but with Scott’s blurry face next to lyric snippets from his Astroworld album. But they were made in limited quantities, so only a few thousand out of millions of NBA 2K19 units feature this cover. So, people who have a genuine article could make a lot of money by selling it, so long as they can prove it’s the real cover and not a glossy printout replacement.

Tamashii

CIB Price: $969

Loose

$884.11

Complete in Box

$969

New

$1,356.60

A weird, creepy, brooding game, Tamashii is a puzzle-platformer where its lead is drawn into a mysterious temple by the eldritch abomination hiding within it. If they don’t avoid its traps, hazards, and enemies, they’ll end up as another one of the entity’s victims. It’s a good choice for fans of Junji Ito and weird horror, and its digital edition can be found for fair prices on Steam and online stores.

Its physical edition is another story. Produced in limited amounts by Limited Rare Games (not to be confused with Limited Run), it was released for Halloween 2020 and has since sold out. The only way to track it down is through second-hand copies, where its loose copies have risen back up to $762. CIB copies also jumped back up to $875, while New copies made a big leap, reaching $1,395. It might even reach its old peak of $2,100, set back in April 2022.

Titanfall 2 Collector’s Edition

CIB Price: $911.96

Loose

$505

Complete in Box

$911.96

New

$1403.32

Titanfall 2 was one of the best FPS PS4 games, and it has aged beautifully. Nowadays, physical copies of the game are basically given away, including the Deluxe Edition; however, the price shoots up when “collector’s” is added to the title. The PAL region’s Collector’s Edition is about $500, which is almost nothing compared to the NTSC price on the PS4.

The 25 Rarest PS2 Games (& How Much They’re Worth)

The most expensive PS2 games for collectors to buy can change over time, and here are the rarest games in 2026.

You are likely looking at a $900+ investment to buy this one, although it was cheaper in the past. There was a time when a CIB version was between $400–600, which is far more enticing. As there are only a handful of these available, a single sale significantly changes PriceCharting’s listing. However, as more time passes, this edition will likely just become more expensive.

6

Poop Slinger

CIB Price: $976.35

Loose

$849

Complete in Box

$976.35

New

$1,700

Poop Slinger is exactly what its title suggests. It’s a game where players throw poop at people for points. The more poop slung, the more modes, customizable options, and more get unlocked. It can be picked up digitally for $4.99, and even then, it’s overpriced as it’s a pretty terrible game. But Limited Rare Games thought it would be hilarious to make 84 physical copies of the game and sell them on their website.

As such, it’s become the most expensive PS4 game to track down, with loose discs going for $850, and sealed copies going for $2,200. Some copies have even retailed on eBay for $4,000 or even $17,000. All for a cheap gag game about throwing feces. People can only hope humanity reaches these heights once again someday.

5

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series Signature Pack

CID: $1000

Loose

$869.57

Complete in Box

$1,000

New

$1,300

Telltale lost a lot of goodwill with people following their closure for bankruptcy protection. They’re technically still around today, albeit after letting go of a lot of their workforce. Skybound Games helped keep on a few of their workers to finish off their famous adaptations of The Walking Dead video games, including making it the Definitive Series boxset. Players could see how Clementine’s story played out from beginning to end, with a few digital touch-ups, and extra trinkets like Behind the Scenes features, digital music collection, 3D model viewer, and more.

It also had 3 different Collector’s Editions, with the rarest one being the Signature Pack. It came with everything from the regular Protector Pack (shirt, pins, dolls, etc), the Guardian pack (stamped signatures from the dev team, art print by Eric Zawadzki), with exclusives like a signature-stamped box and signed art print. Sadly, the planned Clementine and Lee diorama was canceled, but might have driven the price up more. Only 100 Signature Pack units were made, and have since quadrupled in price from their $250 RRP to $1,000 complete.

4

Inside Collector’s Edition

CIB Price: $1,175

Loose

$569.71

Complete in Box

$1,175

New

$1,528

One of the most beloved indie games of all time, Inside is about as accessible as it can be. Not only is it available on every modern system, but it regularly goes on sale for basically peanuts. If you want to play Inside, you can without any issues. If you want to own a physical copy of Inside, then you can pick up the double pack with Limbo for about $30. The game also received its own standalone CD, which is a bit more limited but still costs under $50.

Then, there is the Collector’s Edition, which was created as a collaboration between Playdead and iam8bit. According to this listing, it was $375 at launch, which is already very expensive. However, it is now more than double that price. To be fair, it has a pretty good haul.

3

Nier Automata Black Box Edition

CIB Price: $1175

Loose

$569.71

Complete in Box

$1175

New

$1528

Another limited edition box set that nowadays costs an arm and a leg, Nier Automata Black Box Edition is actually quite a bog-standard example of this type of release. It comes with the game, a small art book, a 2B figurine that would go for like $20 in Akihabara, and a soundtrack. Nothing amazing by any stretch of the imagination, and even the original $189.99 was arguably on the expensive side.

Well, nowadays, you will need to spend a lot more to get your hands on this box set. PriceCharting lists $1175 as the CIB price, although I have seen eBay listings for around $500–$800. Still expensive, but a bit more reasonable.
