4Loop Shows Co-Op PS5 Game

The upcoming PlayStation 5 and PC co-op game 4:Loop just received a new gameplay trailer during the February State of Play. This trailer gave fans a general overview of 4:Loop‘s roguelike gameplay, which included a tease of an intriguing boss fight.

4:Loop was first announced at the 2025 Game Awards, where Mike Booth and J.J. Abrams took to the stage to reveal the game and discuss its development. While J.J. Abrams is a renowned filmmaker likely best known for directing 2009’s Star Trek and both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, Mike Booth is known as the lead designer and one of the primary creators of Left 4 Dead. Booth is the current chief creative officer at Bad Robot Games, a division of Abrams’ Bad Robot production company.

4:Loop Reveals New Gameplay Trailer

4:Loop‘s State of Play gameplay trailer, and its accompanying PlayStation Blog post written by Mike Booth, guide fans through the game’s core gameplay loop. This loop begins with players teaming up and selecting a mission from the ‘Probability Map,’ which is essentially a board of interconnected icons, each one representing a specific mission type that comes with its own unique rewards and risks. This is a common feature found in roguelikes such as Slay the Spire and Inscryption, encouraging players to look ahead and plan their route carefully to maximize the number of resources and upgrades they can get before facing a boss.

With a mission chosen, the team is immediately teleported to its location and is tasked with completing the specific objectives. According to Booth’s blog post, these objectives can include hacking into alien technology, collecting critical resources, and rescuing survivors that grant the team powerful upgrades. Regardless of mission type, waves of alien Killbot squads will be sent to try to eliminate the players. If a player dies in battle, they’ll be “reprinted” and thrust back into the fray, albeit with a new broken bone that can only be healed at a Rest Stop. If all players fall, the run ends, though only one team member needs to make it to the end of a mission to keep the run going for everyone.

Completing a mission will take players back to 4:Loop‘s Homebase, where they can purchase new gear and weapons, evolve their loadout, and equip new items. Players may also encounter a shop during the course of their run, which will offer similar rewards in exchange for 4:Loop‘s currency, ‘Cache.’ After a handful of missions, the section of the Probability Map will come to an end, and players will be thrown into a boss battle. According to Booth, there are three unique bosses currently in 4:Loop, each one requiring distinct tactics to eliminate. The only boss shown in 4:Loop‘s State of Play trailer was a large Rubik’s Cube-like enemy that shifted its weak points erratically.

Towards the end of Mike Booth’s PlayStation Blog post, he mentions 4:Loop‘s post-launch plans, saying the following:

“Once you buy the game, we’ll update it based on what players like. Our goal is for you to have a great time, invite your friends, and we build a thriving community together.”

There’s no official release date for 4:Loop yet, but eager fans will be able to try the game for themselves soon enough by signing up for 4:Loop‘s Closed Beta. This beta is currently accepting sign-ups and is set to begin in Spring 2026 for both PS5 and PC players. Initially, 4:Loop‘s Closed Beta will only be available to those located in North America, but additional regions will be added throughout the beta period.
