Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolution for Marowak

Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolution for Marowak

A talented Pokemon fan online has created an awesome Mega Evolution for Generation 1’s Marowak. The custom design puts a fresh twist on Marowak, which has been a staple of the Pokemon roster since the very start but has yet to be given a Mega Evolution in the games by developer Game Freak.

Over the years, the Pokemon community has shown itself to be amongst the most creative and talented of any online group. With over 1,000 Pokemon designs, fans certainly aren’t short of inspiration, and with Generation 10 arriving in 2027, there will soon be plenty more subjects for fans to take an interest in. It’s cool to see how fans pay tribute to the Pokemon franchise using their own unique talents. For example, there was one Pokemon fan who created some lucky red envelopes to celebrate the Lunar New Year, showing how fan creations can come in all shapes and sizes.

Pokemon Marowak Mega Evolution Gives it a Vehicle

Redditor Matratzfratz shared their impressive fan art depicting a Pokemon Mega Evolution concept for Generation 1 favorite, Marowak. The concept gives the Pokemon a giant vehicle, which is shaped just like its own skull. They’ve even used bones as wheels, which they acknowledged in the comments of the thread would probably result in a “bumpy ride.” This Mega Evolution turns Marowak into a Ground/Fire-type, upgraded from its usual Ground type. This takes some inspiration from the Alolan Marowak introduced in Generation 7, which is a Fire/Ghost-type. Fans in the thread admitted that Matratzfratz’s version of the Mega Evolution surpassed their expectations, with one user saying, “I was expecting Marowak to be holding two clubs. This is even better.” The vehicular design inspired one user to ask, “How have we not gotten a Pokemon kart racer at any point in the past 30 years?”

Because Marowak is a Generation 1 Pokemon, it is a naturally popular choice for fan art for a few reasons. Fans have had almost three decades to become familiar with these Pokemon designs, which is plenty of time to become attached to them. Equally, this is also a lot of time for these designs to start to feel stale, especially if Game Freak doesn’t give them a new form in a more recent game. While this isn’t the case with Marowak thanks to its Alolan form, it’s true for a lot of Generation 1 designs. This is why there is plenty of fan art depicting Generation 1 Pokemon redesigns.

Mega Evolutions were first introduced in Pokemon Generation 6, a transformation mechanic that allowed Pokemon to undergo a temporary evolution during battle. Not all Pokemon are capable of Mega Evolutions, making those that can extra special. As a result, it’s fairly common to see Pokemon fans design their own Mega Evolutions for those that don’t already have them in-game.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Pokemon, and it’s going to be a major period for the franchise. This year has already seen the release of the critically acclaimed life simulator Pokopia, and Pokemon Generation 10 is confirmed to release in 2027. The franchise only continues to grow in popularity, and it’s amazing to see how it manages to stay relevant year after year.
