Battlefield 6 Now Lets Players Pre-Order Battle Passes

Battlefield 6 Now Lets Players Pre-Order Battle Passes

Battlefield 6 players can now pre-order Battle Passes, and the fanbase does not seem to be impressed. Live service monetization is always a sticky subject, with loot boxes, cosmetics, and other microtransactions frequently drawing the ire of some gamers while remaining an undeniably successful business model. That may not be anything unique to Battlefield 6, but the game has just put a new spin on the concept, though it may not prove popular.

After an enormous launch, Battlefield 6 plummeted in the public eye. Player counts fell, users complained about how EA was handling new content, and cracks emerged after the novelty of the game wore off. However, things seem to be looking up for the shooter as of late, with Battlefield 6 bringing back a fan-favorite map in Season 3 and promising fans it is listening to their feedback as it moves forward with future content plans. That said, not every one of the upcoming changes is likely to be a hit.

Battlefield 6 Season 4 Is Bringing Back a Core Feature Fans Missed

Battlefield 6 Season 4 finally reintroduces naval combat, a core piece of the series’ identity that’s been missing from the title since it’s launch.

Battlefield 6 Update Lets Players Pre-Order Next Season’s Battle Pass

As spotted by CharlieIntel, Battlefield 6‘s latest update brings the ability to pre-purchase Battle Passes and BF Pro bonus paths. Any time between now and Battlefield 6 Season 3’s launch later in May, players can spend the usual 1,100 Battlefield Coins to secure the new season’s bonus content ahead of time. Similarly, anyone who wants Season 3 BF Pro can order it for $24.99 before it drops. As may be expected, replies to the finding were largely unenthusiastic. Users questioned why pre-orders are necessary, considering how Battle Passes are not finite, and these prices are identical to what the extra content usually costs.

There is some advantage to pre-ordering the Battle Pass or BF Pro. In both cases, pre-ordering will immediately give players one or two of the upcoming weapon skins, depending on which version they buy. Once the new season begins, players who purchase these packages ahead of time will also get immediate tier skips, which could be relevant to those who are unhappy with Battlefield 6‘s short timeline for BF Pro bonus paths, as it’d make it easier to unlock everything in time. Beyond that, though, there does not seem to be much difference between pre-ordering these bonuses and simply waiting until Season 3 starts, like a user normally would.

It’s unclear if this practice will continue beyond Season 3 or how many players will take advantage of it. If the replies to CharlieIntel’s post are anything to go by, though, the pre-order concept does not appear popular. Battle Passes and other microtransactions are often cited as some of the most annoying recent trends in gaming, and while this may not make Battlefield 6‘s in-game extras any more expensive, it does feel like EA has not read the room.

Fans have called out plenty of areas of the game that could use improvement, and the ability to pre-order Battle Passes likely didn’t fall very high on many players’ list of wants. After Season 2 failed to meaningfully improve Battlefield 6‘s player count, the game likely needs other changes to inject life back into it. There is still plenty in Season 3 and beyond to look forward to, and while some people may find value in ordering the Battle Pass ahead of time, it seems like new maps and naval warfare will be a much bigger draw.
