TT Games has announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has gone gold, which means development on the base game is now finished. Rather than adapting a specific comic storyline or set of movies, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight offers a new narrative featuring the DC Comics hero. The developers see this as a celebration of the character’s rich history in comics, movies, television, and video games.
Some of the inspirations for the new LEGO game are easy to spot, including character designs directly based on movies like Batman Returns. However, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight also has combat inspired by the Arkham series, with some adjustments made so that the game can be enjoyed by players of all ages. Batman fans have been desperately hoping for a follow-up to Arkham Knight, and this could help fill the void.

A Warner Bros. Games leak claims that Injustice 3 is in development, once again pitting DC heroes and villains against one another.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Nears Its Release Date
Ahead of the game’s launch, TT Games has announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has gone gold. When a game goes gold, it means that development on the base game is now complete. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released May 22, arriving on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Barring any last minute issues, that means the game should be on schedule for launch.

This will mark the first new title from TT Games since the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2022. While that game featured a massive cast, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has just a few playable characters. The developers wanted to ensure that they all felt distinctive, which is something that hasn’t always been the case in previous LEGO games. In the past, playable characters in LEGO games would often blend together, giving players less incentive to use every option available. LEGO Batman‘s focus on a smaller cast should ensure that fan favorites like Batman, Robin, and Catwoman all have their own unique play style.
While there won’t be a lot of playable characters to choose from, many different incarnations of Batman will be on display. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will include the character’s Absolute costume, as well as several other suits from the franchise. The Absolute suit is one of the most recent costumes from the Batman comics, and the game will offer much older ones as well, including a throwback based on the one worn by Adam West. TT Games seems to be digging deep into Bruce Wayne’s closet, so longtime fans should find plenty of options to choose from.

When it comes to superhero video games, Batman has one of the best track records out there. Between the Arkham trilogy and the original LEGO Batman games, Batman has had it better than a lot of other heroes. It remains to be seen whether LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will stack up with the best, but with the game releasing soon, DC fans will soon have a chance to play it and decide for themselves.
