Forza Horizon 6 Has Massive File Size on PC and Xbox

Forza Horizon 6 is going to be an immense game both in content and in the amount of space it takes up on a drive, with way over 100 GB of storage necessary on day one of its release. As the premiere racing game of 2026, Forza Horizon 6 commands attention from virtually every genre enthusiast across all platforms, as it’s coming to PlayStation 5 sometime down the line too, but installing it may well be an ordeal.

Forza Horizon 6 sold over 500,000 pre-orders on Steam alone by mid-April, proving just how wildly popular its choice of region already is. Set in a fictionalized version of Tokyo and its surrounding region, Forza Horizon 6 is exactly the kind of game many had been asking the developer Playground Games to make. Outside some qualms with how FH6 is handling car customization, everything seems to be point to the game being a runaway success.

Forza Horizon 6 Install Size Revealed, It Is Substantial

Forza Horizon 6 is going to take up about 144 GB on Xbox Series X/S, and 156 GB on PC via Steam and the PC Xbox App. This information came about as the game is now available for preload for all Microsoft Store and Game Pass users, as the preparations have begun for the game’s May 15 launch. It’s a sizeable chunk of (preferably) SSD space, which comes at a steep premium now that storage has gone up in price. Note, too, that Forza Horizon 5 grew in size substantially as time went on, with its car roster alone almost doubling in size. The same is likely to happen with Horizon 6 as well, meaning its initial 150-or-so gig requirement is just the start.

Forza Horizon 5 launched needing about 105 GB, and balooned in size to over 135 GB with all its post-launch content updates and DLCs installed. Forza Horizon 6 is bigger by default in almost every way, on top of needing around 50% more unused space for installation. It’s not impossible that it might grow to be about 180–200 GB in size by the time Playground Games is totally done with it, in a few years’ time.

The available car roster is a good point of comparison as well. Forza Horizon 5 launched with just over 500 vehicles, whereas the final count is at a whopping 908 vehicles in total (six of which are permanently unobtainable, granted). Forza Horizon 6, on the other hand appears to be launching with 550+ vehicles on day one, with some preload datamines suggesting as many as 598 bespoke cars in total. 1000+ vehicles in a long-term Forza Horizon game is a distinctive possibility as of FH6. There will be no shortage of content in Forza Horizon 6, that’s for sure.

Much has already been revealed about Forza Horizon 6, with the lack of granular visual vehicle customization being the biggest disappointment so far. Instead of going the Gran Turismo way of allowing multiple wing, splitter, and hook alternatives, as well as tasteful wide body options for most vehicles, Horizon 6 is still sticking with its one-size-fits-all approach that has admittedly been improved compared to its predecessor. Car customization is not the most exciting feature in Forza Horizon 6, however, as that title might actually have to go to the fully customizable garages. Strange, yes, but not totally out of the left field, considering just how big of a deal player-made content was in Horizon 5.
