A low-income apartment created in The Sims 4 has been turning a lot of players’ heads, adding a burst of player-created reality to the glitz and glamor that the development team is known to produce. The creation possibilities in The Sims 4 are boundless, and while the latest additions help players to build literal palaces, many are looking for something with a lot more grit.

The Sims 4‘s Royalty and Legacy expansion is the newest in the game’s 11-year history, having been released on February 12. Following the themes of dynasties, family legacy, and royal drama, it’s a great departure from reality for the vast majority of the player base, adding an extra touch of fantasy to the popular life sim that already features wizards, vampires, fairies, and more. But some players are tired of all that decadence, and they’re looking for something much closer to their own living situations.

One player looking to add a bit of realism to the game has been showing off their low-income apartment build, which has been getting a decent amount of attention from like-minded players. Reddit user IronKnight05’s apartment creation sports discolored and cracked walls, windows covered by cheap plastic blinds or half-hanging sheets, and cramped and inconvenient layout choices. Despite its absolute lack of excess, this design is resonating with a lot of players who seem tired of the game’s usual push towards more opulent living spaces, even in The Sims 4‘s For Rent expansion, which introduced the concept of apartment living.

This particular apartment has a few features in particular that are getting some special attention from the community, including the bathroom, which is conspicuously lacking a sink. Many commenters have noted the realism of the tiny kitchen, which has a very inconvenient layout, with the only real open counter space positioned awkwardly to the side of the refrigerator, making it essentially useless. The player explained that the Sim living in this apartment mostly only eats chicken nuggets, which is still a possibility thanks to the microwave that is awkwardly tilted on the corner bit of counter between the sink and the stove. One player in particular was thankful that the apartment’s occupant was at least given a four-on-the-floor frame for their bedroom, as getting trapped in a Murphy bed is one of the more interesting ways to die in The Sims 4.

Another feature that’s hitting close to home for some Sims 4 fans is the detached, communal laundry room. Featuring dingy walls, floors with many cracked or missing tiles, and an ancient-looking boiler, players have commented that it’s not a place they’d like to be caught after dark. By the player’s own admission, this room was not entirely their creation and was found on The Sims 4‘s Gallery, but it’s still a work in progress, as they do not own all the content packs to load everything that was uploaded.
