FBC: Firebreak Is Not Shutting Down, Remedy Says

Alan Wake and Control developer Remedy has vowed to keep FBC: Firebreak online, despite the company planning to release no further updates to the game.

As part of Remedy’s latest earnings briefing, the company said, “FBC: Firebreak will remain live and playable.” The studio said the infrastructure costs related to this will not be “significant.”

On Steam, FBC has seven people in the game right now. The game is also available on console through Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, in addition to being available to buy outright. The game may not have been the success that Remedy hoped for, but fans who are playing it will be able to keep doing so, and that’s good news for them.

FBC’s final new content update, “Open House,” was released in March, at which point Remedy put the game into “maintenance mode.” Some feared that Remedy would eventually shut the game down entirely, but that’s not happening, at least not yet. The March update also saw FBC get a permanent price drop and added a new feature to help rope in your friends to play with you.

FBC is not the only game that failed to find an audience but will remain operational. Just recently, Night Street Games announced that its third-person shooter Last Flag will get no further updates beyond the promised content, but it would not shut down so that the people who are playing and enjoying it can keep doing so.

This was the first earnings report from Remedy released under the new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, a former EA executive. He said in prepared comments that, “My belief in Remedy’s vision and future only continues to be reinforced.”

He added: “The gaming industry and market have always been dynamic, now more volatile than ever. As the industry searches for its footing, Remedy will double down on what makes the studio unique: our creative identity, memorable IPs, and commitment to delivering exceptional quality and originality.”

Remedy has multiple other upcoming games in the works, including Control Resonant and remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2. The studio also has a new game that is in the proof-of-concept phase that has not been announced yet.
