A new report may have just shed new light on the next full-fledged Halo single-player campaign. According to this report and a recent Microsoft job listing, the rumored sequel to Halo Infinite is currently codenamed ‘Halo Next.’
The Halo franchise has had a somewhat rocky journey these last few years. While Halo Infinite‘s free-to-play multiplayer mode was heavily praised upon its November 2021 release, its campaign was deemed enjoyable, and the game as a whole received an OpenCritic Top Critic Average of 87, Halo Infinite‘s lackluster post-launch rollout gave the game a disappointing legacy. Halo Studios — formerly 343 Industries — is currently in the process of trying to win fans back around, and the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved is hopefully the first step towards that hopeful future.

Halo Infinite fans can play a new game mode thanks to a surprise update, giving the community a new reason to return to the game in 2026.
New Job Listing Teases First Details of The Next Halo Campaign
According to recent reports, Halo: Campaign Evolved is far from the only project Halo Studios is currently working on. Over the last few weeks, YouTuber Rebs Gaming has been posting video reports that claim to shed light on the internal workings of 343 Industries following the launch of Halo Infinite back in 2021. On April 27, Rebs Gaming — in a video titled “The Original Plan For Halo’s Future!” — claimed that former Halo Head of Creative Joseph Staten announced via a company-wide Microsoft Teams meeting in 2022 that the studio was beginning work on a new Halo campaign. In those initial company-wide Microsoft Teams meetings, Staten would reportedly refer to this project as ‘Campaign Next.’

On May 6, Rebs Gaming released another video report, this one titled “The “Halo Next” Campaign Project!” In this 4-minute video, Rebs Gaming shares new leaked details of this original concept for a Halo Infinite sequel campaign and suggests that Halo Studios is currently working on a new Halo campaign. According to Rebs Gaming’s unnamed source, Joseph Staten’s original plans for a Halo Infinite sequel revolved around The Endless, an antagonistic race introduced in Halo Infinite.
Rebs Gaming’s most recent report then highlights a Microsoft job listing that was posted on May 6. This job listing is for a Narrative Design Director position at Halo Studios. This listing is seeking someone “to help define and deliver the narrative experience for Halo Next…including campaign story structure, tone, character arcs, and narrative integration across gameplay.” As Rebs Gaming points out, this listing seems to suggest that Halo Studios is currently working on a new Halo campaign, and that its current codename is ‘Halo Next.’ While this codename is similar to the one Joseph Staten allegedly used during internal meetings to refer to his planned Halo Infinite sequel, it’s unclear if any of the leaked story details carried over to this ‘Halo Next’ project following Staten’s departure from Microsoft in 2023.

Last weekend, Rebs Gaming released another report claiming that full remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are also in the works at Halo Studios. It’s unclear when these potential remakes will be announced or eventually released, but it’s rumored that they’ll feature the same Unreal Engine 5 improvements given to Halo: Campaign Evolved.
