The novel fossil creations were a hit with fans in the comments, with many providing their own jokes and ideas for the fossils. One fan suggested that the mixed Pokemon fossils would be a clever way to implement Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s Fossil Pokemon, creating their habitats using the incorrectly combined fossils. Several fans made reference to Cara Liss, the scientist character in the Gen 8 games who helps players to create the new fossil Pokemon. Some of the Aerodactyl combinations were particular fan-favorites, with many other users loving the Gen 1 fossil Pokemon walking on the ground.

Pokopia boasts a plethora of Pokemon fossils from throughout the history of the monster-catching franchise, spanning multiple generations. The game includes several individual fossils that can be used to find basic fossil Pokemon, including Cranidos and Shieldon from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and Tyrunt and Amaura from Pokemon X and Y. Larger Fossil Pokemon require several pieces to complete, rewarding players by attracting Aerodactyl and the evolved forms of the Gen 4 and Gen 6 Fossil Pokemon to their village.
