Co-op horror game fans have a new release to playthrough right now, as Reanimal has shadow-dropped its first story DLC. Reanimal initially released back in February from the original developers of Little Nightmares 1 and 2, quickly becoming one of the best horror games of the year. Players looking to continue the story of Reanimal can jump into The Prisoner DLC right now, with two more DLCs planned to launch in the coming months.
2026 has already been a massive year for horror game fans, with major titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Directive 8020 releasing. Reanimal offers a different type of horror experience for fans of co-op games, since players must work together with a friend to overcome the nightmarish world the game throws them into. With a score of 80 on OpenCritic, Reanimal marks one of the strongest showings of the horror genre so far this year, and The Prisoner DLC only enhances the experience.
Reanimal – The Prisoner DLC is Available Now
Revealed during the THQ Nordic Showcase 2026, The Prisoner debuted as the first story DLC for Reanimal. Features of the DLC include:
- Two new playable characters
- Unparalleled atmospheric horror and a terrifying new threat
- New locations and unexpected twists on familiar places
- A new chapter in Reanimal‘s minimalist, interpretive narrative experience
The Prisoner follows two new characters within Reanimal co-op gameplay: the Soldier and the Prisoner, as they fight to survive among the ravages of war. New bosses, such as the Flamethrower Solider, are also part of Reanimal‘s new DLC, along with three new Reanimal chapters for players to complete.
Although Reanimal – The Prisoner can be beaten in just a couple of hours, more DLC is on the way for the game in the near future. Following The Prisoner, two more story DLCs are planned for Reanimal:
- Reanimal DLC 2 — Between October and December 2026
- Reanimal DCL 3 — Between January and March 2027
The three Reanimal DLCs comprise The Expanded World, which is broken up into these separate chapters. Details beyond release windows for the second and third Reanimal DLCs have not been shared yet.
Aside from the trailer for Reanimal – The Prisoner, other THQ Nordic games showcased during the recent showcase included Titan Quest 2, which received a new look at the Spirit Mastery update, upcoming Hollow Knight-like platformer The Eternal Life of Goldman, and the console release of the original Gothic trilogy. Additionally, Gothic 1 Remake got an update on the game’s post-launch roadmap, which includes features like a photo mode, mod support, and more.
For fans of Reanimal looking for more co-op horror experiences after finishing The Prisoner DLC, there is a treasure trove of games to explore. Shift at Midnight recently released on Steam to Very Positive reviews, where up to three players must work at a convenience store while watching out for doppelgangers disguised as humans. Machine Party is another gruesome co-op horror game that blends the mini-games of Mario Party with the brutality of the Saw franchise for up to four players.
