A new roguelike bullet heaven game on Steam, called Arms of God, blends Brotato‘s progression system with a Doom– and Diablo-inspired universe, and it already has Very Positive reviews. Brotato is an autoshooter with cartoony visuals and a lighthearted and comical tone. Arms of God, meanwhile, takes Brotato‘s gameplay formula, strips away the art style, and places it in a dark, gothic setting.
Arms of God is another solo developer success story on Steam. Dominik Sójka spent the past four years working on the game alone, though its recent success prompted him to bring two more developers onto the project. Together, the three-person team behind Arms of God now operates as Dark Jay Studio, and its debut title is already gaining traction on Steam among fans of the bullet heaven genre.

For Helldivers 2 fans getting tired of spreading democracy through space, this promising Steam game offers co-op action in a vastly different setting.
Arms of God Has 89% Positive Reviews on Steam
Released in early access on Steam on June 8, 2026, Arms of God has accumulated nearly 1,000 user reviews as of this writing, with an overall rating of Very Positive. Dark Jay Studio describes the game as a fresh take on Brotato, but with “actual lore, giant gothic cathedral, and demons,” starring a futuristic Templar wielding a holy superweapon.

Arms of God Features at a Glance
Arms of God has ten playable characters with distinct skill sets, 60 handcrafted levels, and a deep progression system built around upgrades and enchantments. The game is a single-player roguelike experience with no co-op support, uses an isometric camera perspective, and is fully compatible with Steam Deck. It is currently available for around $10 USD, though that reduced price is due to a limited-time 38% launch discount that runs until June 22. After the promotion ends, the game will return to its regular price, which is about $15 USD.
Doom’s Gore and Diablo’s Lore
Arms of God‘s Steam page sheds light on the inspiration behind its world-building, describing the game as a “roguelite bullet heaven arena autoshooter with Doom-esque gore vibes, metal music, and a satisfying combat feel.” The character designs also appear to draw heavily from id Software’s iconic shooter series. At the same time, the isometric camera perspective and flashy combat effects across hellish environments are likely to remind many players of the Diablo franchise. The game’s lore also leans into religious themes, adding another similarity between Arms of God and Blizzard’s long-running action RPG series.
Brotato’s Progression and an Intricate Buildcrafting System
In Brotato, players experience a bullet heaven gameplay loop split into a series of short stages. Each run feels like a collection of quick sessions, where the goal is to survive enemy waves, eliminate as many foes as possible, and gather XP. Arms of God follows a similar formula. The game features 60 handcrafted levels, each with its own enemies, bosses, and objectives.

Arms of God also expands on Brotato’s buildcrafting mechanics. Players can wield up to five weapons, referred to in-game as “arms.” These arms can be upgraded and forged into new equipment using souls collected from fallen enemies. Unlike Brotato, which emphasizes fast decision-making between rounds, Arms of God takes a more methodical approach. The game offers a wide range of ways to modify and enhance each weapon’s stats and abilities, resulting in a level of customization that has led some players to compare it to games like Path of Exile. That said, the buildcrafting options in Arms of God are still considerably more streamlined than what players get in those kinds of titles.
Dark Jay Studio is already working on an Endless Mode for Arms of God, which will be added with future updates.
