Top Upcoming Open-World Games Releasing In July 2026

Most of the hottest gaming releases of 2026, open-world games included, are currently scheduled to release this autumn, so September and October already look incredibly stacked. Fans of the genre can expect long-anticipated titles like The Blood of Dawnwalker, not to mention GTA 6, as Rockstar finally seems to be starting the marketing for the generational title poised to set numerous records.

5 Open-World Games Of This Generation That Are Legit Flawless

These open-world games are true gems of the current generation, capturing the best that the modern genre formula is capable of.

With all that on the table, July looks relatively calm for fans of the open-world genre. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a natural headliner, standing as the first full-fledged remake in the popular open-world series. Yet there are also numerous promising upcoming titles that are easy to overlook in its huge shadow. Let’s examine some of the open-world titles currently expected to launch in July, highlighting their biggest hooks.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Coming July 9

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is potentially the biggest open-world game of this summer, promising to do justice to one of the most beloved titles in the popular franchise with almost two decades of regular releases. Ubisoft has even fully wrapped support for AC Shadows to focus entirely on AC Black Flag Resynced, potentially hoping to capitalize on fans’ enduring love for Edward Kenway and the irresistible allure of piracy. Best of all, fans of the series can already unlock unique rewards in AC Shadows to claim them in Black Flag Resynced on day one.

Every confirmed feature coming to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

All Features Confirmed for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced So Far

From graphics upgrades to expanded gameplay and story, there’s a laundry list of ambitious changes coming to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Ubisoft has been quite generous in sharing details about Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in the past few months, highlighting how the remake is both faithful and respectful to the original yet isn’t afraid to modernize some of its outdated aspects and mechanics, like tailing sections. The devs are also adding more story content to the package, expanding on missions and side characters. Fortunately, the game won’t adopt the RPG elements from later mainline entries, remaining firmly in the narrative-driven action-adventure realm.

Palworld

Coming July 10 (Version 1.0)

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Xbox One

While not an entirely new release of 2026, Palworld probably deserves extra attention with its long-anticipated 1.0 launch across all platforms in less than one month. Back in 2024, Pocketpair made quite a fuss with the early access launch of the game, amassing over 2 million concurrent players in this unique Pokemon-like open-world adventure and remaining one of the most played titles on Steam for several months. For the upcoming 1.0 launch, the devs promise some serious changes and improvements, so it’ll be interesting to see how many players will decide to dive into Palworld once again.

Great New Open-World Games That Nobody Noticed

In a genre as popular and expansive as open-world games, there are always going to be excellent but overlooked titles like these.

Palworld blends exploration, combat, crafting, base building, and resource gathering in a vast multi-biome world driven by sandbox freedom. Some of the biggest changes coming with the full launch include map expansion (World Tree endgame region), an expanded roster of pals (over 200 unique creatures in total), and notable changes to progression with the addition of new mechanics like advanced breeding. While players can carry over their existing saves to the full game, the team recommends a fresh start to fully appreciate all the changes to the experience.

Echoes of Aincrad

Coming July 10

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Fun fact: most of the open-world games coming this July launch almost on the exact same day, so players who aren’t into Assassin’s Creed can pick something else. Echoes of Aincrad is Bandai Namco’s offering. After years of being established as a fantasy setting for Sword Art Online, the fascinating world of Aincrad opens the door for many newcomers, with heavily requested features like a fully custom playable character, real-time action combat with AI partner synergies, and a “climb” structure. Core progression centers around players exploring and conquering the floating castle, where a single floor can be filled with numerous biomes or dungeons.

Sword Art Online Fans Are Getting Their Monster Hunter World Moment This Summer

Echoes of Aincrad could finally give Sword Art Online fans the Monster Hunter World moment they have wanted since Floor 1.

Even though Echoes of Aincrad might not fully qualify as a true open-world game (more large zone based with strong exploration elements) and is heavy on linear segments, there are still enough hooks for fans of the genre. The world of Aincrad is vast, beautiful, and diverse, featuring entire cities with stunning environments. The game promises to deliver a strong exploration layer as players gradually reveal the interconnected map while the story unfolds. There’s also a free demo for Echoes of Aincrad available for you to try and decide whether the game is up your alley.

Seed

Coming July 21 (Early Access)

Seed isn’t just your typical open-world game, although its dynamic world of the planet of Avesta is seemingly more open and alive than some titles can ever hope to match. Incredibly ambitious, Seed is an attempt to create a realistic player-driven shared persistent world, where nothing is set in stone, and everything is defined by player-created bio-engineered human characters, here called Seedlings (somewhat of a Sims analogue). The world of Avesta and all of its inhabitants are always on, existing in real time with no pauses or resets, even when you’re offline.

5 Open-World Games Coming In Summer 2026 That Already Deserve Your Attention

This summer is unexpectedly generous for some really promising open-world games, so which of these will you play?

If that sounds way too ambitious, keep in mind that the developer Klang Games, which describes Seed as a society simulator MMO, was founded by former EVE Online developers, which is known for its persistent world capable of generating incredible stories that echo through the community. As such, Seed could become the next step in persistent virtual universes — entirely shaped by long-term consequences and real stakes, player-built economies and law systems, and even entire cultures. If you’re looking for a truly unique open-world experience this summer, then Seed deserves your full attention, although the project might only thrive if it establishes a dedicated fan base to keep the world of Avesta as rich and life-like as it is meant to be.

DragonSword: Awakening

Coming July 23

For fans of vivid, colorful environments and the nowadays popular anime-style aesthetic, DragonSword: Awakening might be worth checking out, as this action-adventure seemingly checks all the right boxes for a sprawling open-world journey. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game by Hound 13 invites you to explore the vast Continent of Orbis in an epic quest to save it from the threat of a Dragon reawakened after years of slumber. From free-form exploration and thrilling combat to leisure activities like resource gathering and cooking, DragonSword: Awakening could be a perfect summer game to spend dozens of hours in.

DragonSword: Awakening seems especially suitable for fans of cozy adventure and charming characters, with its radiant, warmly colored fantasy world full of spectacular landscapes and an emphasis on daily-life side quests that can help you get to know this world’s inhabitants. Fear not, it’s not just cozy vibes all around, as intense and spectacular tag-team combat featuring 19 unique heroes and a rich combo system plays a major part in DragonSword: Awakening. Best of all, like with Echoes of Aincrad, you can get a demo of the game for free to see how its world and combat feel.
