Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are already being relisted by scalpers with modest markups. Although there is little practical reason to pay above retail for a game that remains widely available through official channels, some fans appear to be purchasing the overpriced GTA 6 listings anyway.
GTA 6 pre-orders opened on June 25. Rockstar split its pre-release offerings into two editions: Standard and Ultimate. Breaking with the company’s usual approach, neither edition is available on disc. The Standard Edition can technically be pre-ordered in boxed form, but it only contains a download code. As a result, there is effectively an unlimited supply of pre-order copies on both PlayStation and Xbox.
GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Officially Breaking Gaming’s Golden Rule
The pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 have finally gone live, and it’s breaking a long-running rule about claiming a copy early.
Scalpers Are Successfully Selling Marked Up GTA 6 Download Codes on eBay
Despite the lack of scarcity that typically enables scalping, some sellers are already trying to flip GTA 6 download codes. More surprisingly, some appear to be succeeding, based on multiple late June 2026 eBay listings marked as “recently completed.” Those sales include the digital-only Ultimate Edition selling for as much as $101.19, a markup of just $1.20. Standard Edition listings have also reportedly closed at prices as high as $93.22, giving scalpers a gross premium of $13.23 before platform fees. None of the realized prices listed by eBay include potential shipping costs, which buyers would have to cover for “physical” copies of GTA 6 that are effectively boxed download codes.
There Is No Reason To Pre-Order GTA 6 Through eBay Resellers
The limited success that GTA 6 scalpers appear to be seeing on eBay likely comes largely from buyers who are unaware of the official pre-order options. Even so, publicly available data suggests the resale market remains small, with fewer than a dozen sold listings recorded in the first 36 hours after pre-orders opened. Separately, some eBay sellers appear to be listing standalone box covers for $79.99, matching the price of the GTA 6 Standard Edition in an apparent attempt to make buyers mistake them for actual copies of the game. These listings are not mislabeled, but seem to be counting on impulse purchases. Both the misleading and marked-up listings underline that there is little reason to pre-order GTA 6 through eBay resellers.
Rockstar’s decision not to release GTA 6 on disc at launch may stem from an effort to prevent retailers from breaking the game’s street date, a problem that has affected Nintendo releases and many other major games over the years. According to a recent report from Polish outlet PPE, a full physical release may instead be planned for December 2026, several weeks after the game’s digital launch.
In the meantime, Rockstar is incentivizing GTA 6 pre-orders in two main ways. The first is the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes “decadent” hairstyles and outfits for both Jason and Lucia, along with the ’55 Vapid Stanier sedan and an accompanying garage. Every pre-order also includes a free month of GTA+, redeemable only in GTA Online. GTA 6 itself will not launch with a multiplayer mode, which is expected to arrive after release. While GTA+ could theoretically carry over to the new multiplayer offering, the pre-order bonus must be redeemed by March 31, 2027. It remains unclear whether the GTA 6 version of GTA Online will arrive by then, though the release cadence of its predecessor suggests that it likely will.
