Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Could Be Doing FromSoftware a Favor

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Could Be Doing FromSoftware a Favor

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced gives one of the most beloved entries in the series a fresh coat of paint, and it could be the perfect push for FromSoftware’s rumored pirate game. There have been a handful of pirate games over the years, like Sea of Thieves and Skull and Bones, but the original version of Assassin’s Black Flag Resynced is seen by many as the best pirate game of all time. It’s going to be hard for another pirate game to compete with Black Flag Resynced, but if any developer has the skills to do so, it might be FromSoftware.

The FromSoftware pirate game rumors have not been addressed by the developer, but it has been one of the most compelling what-ifs of the year so far. Going down the pirate route would be a shocking new direction for the developer. However, the longer the time spent thinking about it, the more perfect of a match-up it sounds. Only time will tell if these rumors are actually true, but if they are, then FromSoftware could be getting a huge unintentional assist from Ubisoft’s Black Flag Resynced.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Review: A Grand Prize

From the ground up, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is nothing short of a massive improvement over the already-great 2013 game.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Has What It Takes to Make Pirates Cool Again

Edward Kenway

Granted, pirates have always been cool, but they haven’t been explored in gaming as much as one would think. There is a lot of great potential for new pirate games. Of course, no one wants a scenario where the gaming landscape is oversaturated with pirate-based projects, but there needs to be more to look forward to than just Black Flag Resynced.

Open-world pirate games like Sea of Thieves, Skull and Bones, and the upcoming Sea of Remnants have the live service market covered, and that makes Black Flag Resynced an even bigger reminder that there is a shocking lack of single-player story-driven action adventure pirate games that offer what the Assassin’s Creed entry does. It’s a standout, and that’s one of the main aspects that has also helped it maintain its beloved status for so long. There simply isn’t anything else around that can compete at the same level.

Ubisoft Was Right to Remake Black Flag

Starting off with the first Assassin’s Creed game would mean the entire original trilogy would have to get remade. Even though that would be pretty exciting, that’s also a tall order. There are a few other Assassin’s Creed games that deserve the remake treatment, like Unity, but Black Flag is still praised by many longtime series fans as the best game in the franchise. Not only that, but it also gave Ubisoft an excuse to reuse the tools used for Skull and Bones, which is just smart from a business perspective.

Black Flag Resynced is hopefully a sneak peek at where Ubisoft is headed with future Assassin’s Creed games. In many ways, it feels like Black Flag Resynced is marking the end of the massive open-world RPG era. The original Black Flag had plenty of open-world elements, but the map is more balanced and less content-bloated compared to entries like Valhalla.

Beyond the obvious reasons that made Black Flag the obvious choice to remake, its world benefits the most from the tech advancements that have come since the original game launched. The Caribbean is one of the most vibrant Assassin’s Creed worlds, even without the remake. Giving it a tune-up only makes its sunny seaside setting that much more beautiful. It’s a world that entices players to explore, and it helps further drive home why living the life of a pirate is so cool.

FromSoftware’s Rumored Pirate Game Could Be the Anti-Black Flag, and That Makes It That Much More Compelling

Black Flag Resynced‘s world is filled with bright sun, beautiful palm trees, and crystal blue water crashing on white sandy beaches. It’s downright breathtaking to watch sometimes, but FromSoftware is bound to bring a much darker vibe to gamers, which is one of the many things that make this rumored game so intriguing. If FromSoftware really is working on a pirate game, then I fully expect it to be the other side of Black Flag Resynced‘s coin.

There is a shocking lack of single-player story-driven action adventure pirate games that offer what the Assassin’s Creed entry does.

Black Flag Resynced basks in the sun-drenched beauty of the Caribbean, while FromSoftware will probably feel more like a trip through a Lovecraftian-inspired hell. FromSoftware is incredibly skilled at crafting worlds that are equally horrifying and beautiful. Bloodborne‘s world design is a clear example of this eye-catching contrast, and FromSoftware’s pirate project hopefully takes plenty of notes from the beloved game. A Bloodborne-inspired pirate game is something I didn’t even realize I wanted until these rumors popped up.

Once Black Flag Resynced Has Had Enough Time in the Sun, Gamers Are Bound to Want Something Fresh

A FromSoftware pirate game would be able to scratch that itch for more sailing and exploration, but it would also be a great palate cleanser. While Black Flag Resynced‘s map feels romantic and sunny, FromSoftware can come in swinging with a dark and festering island-like world that showcases the scarier side of pirate life. Fun, classic legends like magical sea monsters and curses could make for a great horror-drenched pirate story.

According to the rumors, this pirate game could be another shake-up for FromSoftware. Instead of doing more open-world maps like Elden Ring, the pirate project reportedly has a more linear world that is interconnected. As interesting as that sounds, all rumors about this game should be taken with a grain of salt until FromSoftware makes an official statement about any future work.

As the year continues, it’s going to be fascinating to find out if these FromSoftware pirate game rumors are true or not. The developer has kept quiet, but there are some big events later this year that could be the perfect moment to make a big reveal. Gamescom happens in August, and The Game Awards close out the year in December. With FromSoftware working on The Duskbloods for the Switch 2 and no Elden Ring Nightreign DLC 2 in sight, a pirate game that embraces Bloodborne‘s darkness or even brings something better to the table would be huge news for a lot of longtime fans of the studio.
