Steam Users Should Claim Free 2D Fantasy Game Before It’s Delisted

Steam Users Should Claim Free 2D Fantasy Game Before It’s Delisted

A 2D fantasy game called The Winter Tower is scheduled to be delisted from Steam on July 31, though users who claim it before then can keep it permanently. It is quite common for indie games on Steam to be removed, but not every soon-to-be-delisted title gives users an opportunity to keep it in their libraries at no cost.

July hasn’t been the best month for Steam’s official free-to-keep promotions. Perhaps the most notable giveaway was The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, which is set to end on July 23. Other than that, most freebies on Valve’s storefront came from unofficial promotions or games like The Winter Tower, which are free to keep for reasons other than a limited-time giveaway.

Steam Users Have Until July 23 to Claim 2021 RPG Completely Free of Charge

Steam gamers can currently pick up a 2021 RPG with “Very Positive” reviews completely free of charge, but only until July 23.

The Winter Tower Will Be Delisted Soon, But You Can Keep It

According to developer EVERIUM, The Winter Tower will be removed from Steam on July 31 at 2:00 PM PST. Users who claim it before then will be able to play it afterward. It is worth noting that The Winter Tower is already a free-to-play Steam game, so the situation is technically not a giveaway. Instead, it is an opportunity for fans of 2D games to preserve it.

The Winter Tower Gameplay and Features

  • Single-player campaign
  • Collectible illustrations
  • Female protagonist
  • Fantasy setting
  • Side stories
  • Mystical creatures like elves

Released in 2022, The Winter Tower is a 2D visual novel with a fantasy theme. It follows the story of Ekaterina, a princess trying to prove her abilities and become her father’s successor. Developer EVERIUM describes the narrative as a romantic adventure featuring original music and artwork. The main campaign is not particularly long, but The Winter Tower expands the story with a DLC pack, which costs $14.99, that introduces side adventures and events that take place after the game’s true ending.

The Winter Tower‘s DLC is a paid item that costs about $14.99 USD. Those looking to experience the added content will want to purchase it before the base game is delisted.

Why The Winter Tower Is Being Delisted

While The Winter Tower only has 75 user reviews at the time of writing, its average score sits at 89%, indicating that it is popular among fans of story-rich indie games. For those wondering why a game that has performed well on Steam is being delisted, developer EVERIUM described the situation as a “work-life balance” issue. The developer said, “Unfortunately, balancing real-life responsibilities with game development has become too difficult, so after a lot of thought we’ve decided to put the studio on indefinite hiatus.”

The Winter Tower PC Requirements

OS

Windows 7 (Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system)

CPU

1.8GHz Dual-Core CPU

Memory

More Free Games for PC Users

While official free-to-keep Steam promotions seem to be quite limited at the moment, PC users have several fun freebies to claim from other storefronts. For example, the Epic Games Store’s weekly giveaway has made Echo Generation: Midnight Edition and Luto free to keep until July 23. The storefront also plans to give away a digital card game called Foretales beginning on that day.
