Steam Dev Makes 2026 Turn-Based RPG 100% Free

Another Steam developer has decided to make their recently released game free, giving away the retro-style RPG Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King to all users. In terms of visuals and world design, Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King appears to be an interesting choice for Steam users who enjoy old-school RPGs like the early Final Fantasy titles.

PC users frequently have no-cost titles available to them, and they can currently claim another game for free on Steam before it is delisted. Arena of Trophies is a gladiator combat game that will be removed from the storefront in October. However, anyone who claims it before then can keep it in their library permanently.

All The Free Games You Can Claim In July 2026

Don’t fail to claim a single July 2026 free game through Prime Gaming, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King Used to Cost $11.99, Now It’s Free

Check Out Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King on Steam

  • Genre: CRPG, RPG, Top-Down, Turn-Based
  • Developer: François Duchesne
  • Release Date: June 23, 2026
  • Game Modes: Single-player
  • Estimated Playtime: 30 hours
  • Previous Price: $11.99

Developer François Duchesne had already lowered the price of Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King in June. However, the developer appears to have made the indie RPG permanently free on Steam as of July 23. The good news is that the change does not seem to be tied to a limited-time promotion, meaning anyone can currently download and keep Mystic Depths completely free of charge.

Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King Gameplay Features

  • Top-down pixel art visuals
  • Build-crafting and permanent buffs
  • Turn-based combat
  • Exploration-centric level design
  • Dynamic day/night cycles that affect gameplay
  • A medieval-themed story
  • 30 hours of gameplay

The visuals and soundtrack in Mystic Depths may remind some players of the early Final Fantasy games, particularly Final Fantasy 4. However, the same cannot be said for its combat and progression systems. As another apparent solo developer project on Steam, Mystic Depths is nowhere near as complex as the Final Fantasy series. Still, at no cost, it seems like a worthwhile option for fans of RPGs and retro-inspired games.

Upcoming Free Games on Steam

July disappointed many freebie hunters, offering very few free-to-keep promotions on Steam. Hopefully, August will be better and bring more FTK games for PC users. For now, though, only one title appears to be confirmed for Steam’s August giveaways. According to SteamDB data, Moonlighter will be free to keep on the storefront sometime during that month. It is a cozy roguelike RPG with a charming pixel art style.

Over on the Epic Games Store, things look more promising for freebie enthusiasts. The storefront is currently giving away the narrative-driven card game Foretales and plans to offer two more free games to Epic Games users on July 30: OTXO and Sol Cesto. It remains to be seen whether Steam will keep pace by offering more FTK games in August or if Moonlighter will end up being its only free-to-keep surprise for PC players.
