New Steam Game Has Serious Fire Emblem Vibes

Fans of Fire Emblem and tactical RPGs have a new game to watch, as Beaten Path is officially coming to Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2027. Developed by Peacebreak Studio and being published with support from Wales Interactive, Beaten Path is a turn-based strategy RPG built around grid-based combat, deep customization, and a fantasy world filled with fallen gods, ancient machines, and a mysterious cycle of fate. The game puts players in control of Panna and her companions as they uncover lost memories, forgotten wars, and the truth behind the world around them (with inspiration pulled from classic games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem).

Beaten Path has already started building a community ahead of its release on Steam and other platforms, with developer Jarett Gross and Peacebreak Studio successfully funding the game’s Kickstarter campaign in just 6 days. The project stood out to Wales Interactive because of its focus on strategic battles, party-building freedom, and a world that encourages players to explore beyond the main story. Now, the partnership will help bring Beaten Path to a wider audience across PC and consoles when it launches in 2027.

  • 25+ fully voice-acted characters
  • 100+ weapons across 10 weapon classes
  • Deep customization with dual-jobs, skill trees & unlockable outfits
  • Explore a vast world with shifting weather, strange landmarks & narrative events

The main draw of Beaten Path is its tactical combat system, where every decision can make a major difference. Battles take place across grid-based maps where positioning, terrain, height advantages, and elemental strengths can determine the best approach. Meanwhile, players will need to carefully manage an action point system while using mechanics like Sync attacks and Break effects to create openings and take down enemies. Every move counts, making it an exciting tactical game on Steam in its own right.

Customization also looks to be a major part of the experience, giving players plenty of ways to build their party. Beaten Path features more than 25 recruitable characters, over 250 abilities, more than 100 weapons across 10 weapon classes, and a JRPG-like dual job system that lets players create unique builds. Each job comes with its own skill trees, stat growth, resistances, and weaknesses, meaning players can shape their team around their preferred playstyle.

Outside of combat, Beaten Path expands into a fully explorable 3D world filled with hidden lore, changing weather, optional discoveries, and narrative events. Players will travel across different continents, sail by ship, ride horses, and uncover more about the game’s history while exploring. The journey also includes The Haven, a central hub where allies gather, conversations change over time, shops offer upgrades, and players can prepare their party for future battles.

With its combination of Final Fantasy Tactics-style strategy, Fire Emblem-inspired party customization, and a larger fantasy world to explore, Beaten Path could be worth following ahead of its 2027 launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
