Valve issued a warning to users in certain countries who purchased a Steam Machine or Steam Controller recently, as some personal details may have leaked in a cyberattack on the company it uses to distribute hardware in Europe. As the owner and creator of Steam, Valve has been a mainstay of the PC gaming industry for over two decades.
Steam Machine Shipment Company Hit by Cyberattack
Although ordering a Steam Controller remains difficult, Valve alerted users who recently purchased some Steam-branded hardware. On August 10, Steam alerted users across Europe that CEVA Logistics was the victim of a recent cyberattack. In short, CEVA is the company that helps with fulfilling Steam hardware distribution across the continent. CEVA reportedly notified Valve of the breach on August 7. The hack took place between July 29 and August 1. The information that may have been compromised includes each user’s real name, postal address, country, phone number, and email address. However, no Steam account information, such as passwords or payment methods, was impacted by the cyberattack on CEVA, as Valve stated that information is not accessible to CEVA at all. It is currently unclear exactly how many users across Europe were affected by the cyberattack.
