Arrowhead Game Studios releases the Devoid of Liberty content update for Helldivers 2, placing the Illuminate faction in the spotlight with new enemy types along with missions and features as well as the long-awaited Warhammer 40K crossover. Helldivers 2 continues to evolve with new content for players to dig into, with the promise of even more on the way in the near future.
In May, Arrowhead Game Studios announced its plans for where it would be taking Helldivers 2, while also promising continued improvements to the game and how it communicates those changes with its community. In addition to continued technical improvements, Galactic War Campaigns replaced the Major Orders system to provide clearer stakes for the game world and better rewards, while also teasing the arrival of a new roguelite system called Planet Warfronts. Some of those new additions have finally arrived with the latest Helldivers 2 update.
Helldivers 2 Devoid of Liberty Details
Inside the new Devoid of Liberty update, Helldivers 2 places the focus on the Illuminate faction. This time around, the Helldivers are attempting to enter the strange space known as the Void, but before that can happen, High Command needs intel, sending players on recon missions to planets impacted by it. Players will be receiving new objectives on these Void-touched planets, such as destroying Illuminate spires and gates, infiltrating structures, and completing data reconnaissance. Secondary objectives will also require eliminating Void mutations, extracting materials, and more.

In addition, the Illuminate faction in Helldivers 2 have also received new enemy types for players to keep an eye out for. The Wretch is a fast-moving horror that would seemingly be at home in the Dead Space universe. Put together from limbs and body parts of fallen creatures, these enemies can dodge attacks and work in groups to overwhelm players. The Crusher is a massive figure that can soak up damage as it marches towards players. If players stop focusing on it, not only can it regenerate its health, but it can dish out a massive crushing attack.

Alongside the missions and new enemies, Helldivers 2 players will also see the SEAF (Super Earth Armed Forces) appear on missions, indicated by a tag on the galactic map. These NPC fighters have defined squad roles like the leader or medic and will help push towards objectives. Players can also interact with them using emotes as well.
Finally, the long awaited level cap increase for Helldivers 2 arrives with this update. As previously announced, players who have previously hit the cap have continued to accumulate XP in the background, so upon log-in, they’ll likely have earned a few additional ranks on the new journey to 300. Arrowhead has also added new titles to unlock as well.
Finally, the update is also joined by the latest Legendary Warbond, crossing over with Warhammer 40K. The Helldivers 2 Legendary Warbond is known as Castellan’s Creed, and comes with 2 armor sets, a Primary Hot-Shot Marksman Rifle and Secondary Bolt Pistol weapon, the Meltagun support, and Meltamine throwable. Players will also unlock camo for their vehicles, the True Grit armor passive, and other customizable options like banners, a title, and 2 different capes.
