Derek’s love of games came at an early age when his parents first brought home the Nintendo Entertainment System. From then on, countless nights were spent hunting ducks, stomping turtles, exploring far off planets, and combing through dungeons with a trusty sword and shield. Originally growing up exclusively with Nintendo products, Derek’s perspective grew to include other platforms ranging from Sony, to Microsoft, the PC, and more. As his views and opinions grew, so did the desire to connect with other players and video game fans. In 2011, his writing adventure began on his personal blog, eventually joining up with the GameRant crew in 2015. He currently covers everything from features and guides, to the latest breaking video game news.

In a surprising announcement, Embark Studios confirms that the ARC Raiders Expeditions mechanic is going on hiatus for a while as it undergoes changes, with a planned return sometime in 2027. Change is something that ARC Raiders players should be well versed in at this point, as not only has the game seen plenty of updates over the months since it launched, but Embark has made major mechanical changes as well.

It has to be said that Embark Studios isn’t afraid of making major changes to ARC Raiders, even if it might not be popular with the community. The biggest example of this is when Embark announced that the monthly content drops in ARC Raiders was coming to an end. The fresh content, while popular with players, was simply unsustainable for the studio and that the added time would allow the team to achieve bigger ambitions. Two large-scale updates will arrive each year going forward, with the first one, called Frozen Trail, launching on October 8. Now, Embark is announcing another major change to how the reset system of ARC Raiders will work.

ARC Raiders Pauses Expeditions, Here’s Why

In a new post online, Embark revealed that the fifth expedition window will be the game’s final one for a while as the team pauses departures for “a short while.” Essentially, based on player feedback, Embark is pausing the Expedition system in ARC Raiders in order to make improvements and larger changes. Details are limited on what Embark is planning, but the post does highlight that some areas being addressed are the tight departure windows, accessibility for new players, as well as making sure the feature is as rewarding as it can be.

An ultimate timetable for when Expeditions will return wasn’t provided, with Embark only admitting that it’s planning to bring it back sometime early in 2027. The aim is to use the time to tackle some of the biggest pain points, leading to a stronger and more rewarding system when it does return. As it stands, the upcoming fifth expedition will be the last, with Embark saying players on the fence should take the plunge.
