10/10 Open World Co-Op Game Coming to Switch 2 on September 9

Nintendo Switch 2 owners will soon have an incredible open world co-op experience to check out. The Nintendo Switch 2 is home to all kinds of fantastic co-op games, including some that are exclusive to the platform. For example, just recently, Orbitals was released exclusively for the Switch 2, giving co-op gamers the chance to play an It Takes Two-style co-op sci-fi game with an eye-catching art style inspired by 90s anime.

Plenty of co-op games have been released for Switch 2 since Nintendo’s latest home console/handheld hybrid launched last year, and there are more on the way. In fact, September 2026 is an especially busy month for Switch 2 co-op games with RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, Minecraft Dungeons 2, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and more on the way.

When is Valheim Coming to Switch 2?

In the more immediate future, Switch 2 gamers looking for a new co-op game to play will soon be able to check out Valheim. For the uninitiated, Valheim is an open world co-op survival game for up to 10 players that takes place in a world inspired by Norse mythology. The visuals are like a modern take on PS1-era graphics, and the massive game features a variety of biomes to explore full of unique creatures to fight and secrets to uncover.

As is typical of survival games, Valheim players can do basically whatever they want in the game. There is a main quest with difficult bosses to fight if you want, but players have the option to ignore that aspect of the game entirely and simply focus on finding food, collecting resources, and building bases. Valheim has been playable on other platforms in early access for years, but it will be making its Switch 2 debut when the 1.0 version of the game releases on September 9.

What makes the Valheim 1.0 release so exciting is the fact that the game is already incredible in early access. Valheim early access reviews have heaped praise on the game for being one of the absolute best in its genre. It’s a highly addictive experience that offers a great sense of discovery and is something that all survival game fans should definitely check out. Crossplay support is confirmed as well, so those that decide to pick up the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be able to play with their friends on other platforms — a highly convenient feature, to say the least.

The Valheim 1.0 release is focused on the Deep North biome, addressing bugs and other lingering issues, and introducing new features like the grappling hook. Switch 2 gamers may not have been able to enjoy Valheim in early access, but they will be able to experience the full, 1.0 version of the game at release. It’s been confirmed that there will be future updates released for Valheim as well, even after its 1.0 launch, and so Switch 2 gamers that enjoy the game have that to look forward to. Anyone interested in checking out Valheim on Switch 2 should note that it retails for $29.99.
