Fallout fans can look forward to the release of Raven Rock in 2027. While some might argue in favor of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout is arguably Bethesda’s biggest franchise. Since acquiring the rights to the IP, Bethesda has released the critically-acclaimed Fallout 3, published the Obsidian-developed New Vegas, released spin-off games like Fallout Shelter and Fallout 76, released the hugely successful Fallout 4, and has helped oversee the Fallout TV series that is currently airing on Prime Video, among other things. Clearly, Bethesda is all-in when it comes to Fallout.
Fallout 76 is perhaps the best example of Bethesda’s dedication to the franchise. Fallout 76 launched to widespread negative reviews, panned for its technical issues and multiplayer-focus in a franchise that has largely catered to those that enjoy single-player adventures. But Bethesda didn’t give up on Fallout 76. In the years since its initial release, Bethesda has continued to release substantial content updates and expansions for Fallout 76, dramatically improving it and largely succeeding in repairing public opinion of the game. And even though Fallout 76 was first released eight years ago, Bethesda is not slowing down support any time in the near future.
The Raven Rock Expansion is Coming Next Year
Bethesda will be releasing a brand-new expansion for Fallout 76 at some point in 2027 entitled Raven Rock. The Raven Rock expansion for Fallout 76 has yet to be detailed by the studio, but we do know that its story will serve as a prequel to the aforementioned Fallout 3. As those that have played Fallout 3 will recall, Raven Rock is an extremely important location from that game, so it will be interesting to see its backstory further fleshed out in the world of Fallout 76. More information on the Fallout 76 Raven Rock expansion will come at a later date, but hopefully fans don’t have to wait too much longer to see more.
2027 is going to be a big year for the Fallout franchise in general. Besides the fact that the Raven Rock expansion is releasing for Fallout 76 next year, 2027 also marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Bethesda has already confirmed that it will be hosting an event on Fallout Day next year, so fans should be able to expect some big announcements on October 23, 2027. One such big announcement may very well be linked to Fallout 3, and by extension, Raven Rock.
Bethesda has confirmed that a Fallout 3 remaster is in active development. If the Fallout 3 remaster follows in the footsteps of the Oblivion remaster, it could potentially be a shadow drop. A Fallout 3 remaster shadow drop on Fallout Day would be huge, and does seem like the most likely scenario. If so, it seems Fallout fans can look forward to two trips to Raven Rock in 2027 — once in the Fallout 76 expansion, and again in the Fallout 3 remaster.
While the Fallout 3 remaster releasing next year is what many are assuming is going to happen, it should be stressed that nothing official has been announced by Bethesda. Bethesda confirmed the Fallout 3 remaster is in the works, along with a New Vegas remaster, but stopped short of providing any release window information. Bethesda also confirmed that fans can look forward to even more Fallout projects in the future, with Fallout 5 the next game the studio will make after The Elder Scrolls 6.
