Sony released another PlayStation 5 firmware update on November 2, 2026, which introduces additional security fixes as the company is determined to continue its battle against console jailbreaks, especially ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The last PlayStation 5 update was released on October 21, 2026.
The PlayStation 5 is attracting plenty of attention from the homebrew community, which has been trying to bypass the console’s security for years. Jailbreaking is an action that allows players to modify their systems to run unauthorized software and potentially even open the door to video game piracy. Protecting the console has become particularly important with GTA 6 approaching its November 19 release, which is expected to be one of the biggest launches in the industry.

According to IGN, Sony released PS5 firmware version 26.07-14.22.00 on November 2, with a download size of approximately 1.267 GB. The official patch notes confirm that the update has introduced security fixes to the system software without specifying which vulnerabilities have been addressed. The update follows version 14.20, which was widely interpreted as a response to the ongoing jailbreak developments, even though it did not specify whether the changes had anything to do with security.
