Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Xbox Mythic achievement is proving much harder than its PlayStation 5 Platinum trophy equivalent, thanks to one major difference in requirements. Usually, trophy and achievement lists are exactly the same between games, but Baldur’s Gate 3 is a surprise exception.
Xbox added Mythic achievements at the end of October, finally giving the platform an equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum trophies, which unlock when you earn every other achievement in the game. It has been a very long time coming, and best of all, Mythic achievements are automatically backdated, meaning developers don’t have to go back and update their older titles to support them.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Mythic Achievement Doesn’t Require Honour Mode Completion
There’s an interesting quirk with Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Mythic achievement, tied to the game’s release date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game launched on PS5 on September 6, 2023, just under three months before Baldur’s Gate 3 Honour Mode was released. When the mode was released on November 30, 2023, Larian added a new Trophy to the game named Foehammer, requiring players to beat the game in Honour Mode. However, the Trophy was added as a DLC pack, meaning it isn’t required in order to earn the Platinum trophy.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
When Baldur’s Gate 3 was released for Xbox Series X/S just a few days later on December 7, 2023, Honour Mode was included, and Foehammer was bundled with the base game achievement list. This meant that when Xbox added Mythics, players had to have Foehammer unlocked to get Baldur’s Gate 3‘s completion achievement, making it much harder for Xbox Series X/S players to unlock it than the PS5 Platinum.
Honour Mode is typically seen as Baldur’s Gate 3‘s most difficult challenge. Players have just one save file, meaning reloads are no longer possible. If the party is wiped out during combat, the run is over. Bosses now have legendary actions, making combat more difficult than ever. It’s truly punishing, so having its completion be a necessity for Xbox Mythic achievement hunters (when it’s not for PS5 players) is a bit of a shame. Still, it means the BG3 Mythic achievement will be a true badge of honor for gamers.
Developer Larian has long moved on from Baldur’s Gate 3, leaving the game in an excellent place. Last year, the studio revealed it is working on a new Divinity game, teasing ambitions to go even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a tough act to follow, but if any studio can pull it off with even more experience under its belt, it’s Larian.
