After teasing a special reward for Gears of War: E-Day players in celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, The Coalition revealed free DLC in the form of a classic series villain. 2026 is a big year for Gears of War, a major franchise for the Xbox brand, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, Gears of War: E-Day has a special present for players.
How to Unlock General RAAM in Gears of War: E-Day
As part of The Coalition’s 20th anniversary plans for the Gears of War franchise, the studio has been teasing a special unlock for all players. As it turns out, the studio is giving away a free character starting today, November 7, though it isn’t just any character. Longtime fans will absolutely recognize the free DLC as the main antagonist from the original Gears of War, General RAAM. To unlock the villain as a playable character in the Versus multiplayer, simply log into the game to claim him instantly.

However, the arrival of RAAM is just the start of the celebrations. In fact, The Coalition kicked things off earlier in the week with the fan-favorite Gears of War multiplayer mode making a comeback in E-Day. Guardian is a team-based multiplayer mode where squads have to work together to protect their leader, as once they’re down, they stop respawning on death and the other team has a chance to eliminate them. In addition, a new Horde Siege mode for Gears of War: E-Day was also released called For The Queen. The mode adds a bit of challenge to the game mode by disabling the supply caches and pushing players to rely on their initial loadout and whatever they can scavenge on the battlefield.
The Xbox-related post also provides a few teases for the start of Season 2, which begins on December 1. While The Coalition teased Season 2 in its Gears of War: E-Day post-launch roadmap, the blog post reaffirmed that “Legacy” will continue to “honor the greatest hits of Gears” through the upcoming maps, game modes, and multiplayer skins. While bringing back fan favorites and reimagined versions of classic characters, one example that was shown off was Solemn Memories Dom, a skin that depicts him wearing the suit from the iconic photo of him and Maria from Gears of War 2.
In the meantime, Season 1 continues to roll forward. Since launch, players have already seen plenty of post-launch additions from various updates, to new modes like Ranked Versus, as well as limited-time game modes like the Halloween-inspired Trick-or-Treat game mode where players attempt to hold a Jack-o-Cannon while battling pumpkin-headed enemies. Thanksgibbing is the next major in-game holiday event, but players will need to stay tuned to hear more as it gets closer.
