Pokemon Fan Art is Proof That Shuckle Definitely Deserves an Evolution

Pokemon Fan Art is Proof That Shuckle Definitely Deserves an Evolution

A talented Pokemon fan online has created a neat piece of artwork that imagines what Shuckle would look like with a new evolution. Shuckle is one of the few Generation 2 designs without an evolution, and this Pokemon fan has set out to right this wrong with this artwork, which does a great job of capturing the spirit of the original.

Later this year, Pokemon will officially turn 30 years old. Over the years, the franchise has captured the hearts of fans, who have repaid it with decades of amazing fan art. With over 1,000 Pokemon in total as of Generation 9, fans aren’t short of inspiration. Pokemon artwork comes in all shapes and sizes. While some fans choose to put a new spin on their favorite designs, not everyone shares the same talents. There are many ways Pokemon fans have shown their love for the series, and it’s cool to see how this manifests depending on the artist’s specific talents. The Pokemon series continues to go from strength to strength, and with Generation 10 seemingly on the horizon, fan artists could soon have a new influx of Pokemon to take inspiration from.

Pokemon’s Greatest Hits are Trapped on Old Consoles, and That Needs to Change

For a franchise that wields nostalgia like a weapon, it’s weird that Game Freak hasn’t put the older Pokemon games on newer consoles.

Pokemon Artwork Gives Shuckle an Evolution After 26 Years

Redditor pokepapiofficial shared their epic Shuckle artwork, which imagines the Bug/Rock-type Pokemon asleep, dreaming of what it could look like with an evolution. The design shows Shuckle’s enormous growth in its dream, with a spiky shell and legs that make it a much more menacing Pokemon. It grows a horn on the front, too. It could even be compared to the evolution jump between Squirtle and Blastoise, in how it goes from cute and round to a more aggressive form. The Reddit post is actually a time-lapse video, showing the artwork coming to life from start to finish. It’s definitely an interesting look into their process and could even be a very useful resource for those wanting to learn how to draw Pokemon fan art for themselves.

Fans in the thread were definitely in favor of a potential Shuckle evolution, with one user pointing out that “all you’d really have to do is buff it’s HP stat.” One user was concerned that it could be a case of “be careful what you wish for,” noting that fans called for a Dunsparce evolution for years, eventually getting the controversial Dudunsparce in Generation 9. The fan claims that they’re “scared to hope for Shuckle.”

Because Pokemon spans over nine generations of games now, one fan’s favorite Pokemon is unlikely to be another’s. It’s a franchise that fans tend to invest many years in, which makes many of the older Pokemon more popular than recent designs. Shuckle is a Generation 2 Pokemon, which debuted in 2000 in the United States. That’s over 25 years of history for Shuckle and the rest of Generation 2, which is why it’s unsurprising that these earlier designs are some of the most popular subjects for fan artwork.

It’s going to be a very exciting year for the Pokemon franchise, as it gears up to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Pokemon Pokopia is releasing next month, putting a life-simulation twist on the series’ typical formula. Rumors of Pokemon‘s Generation 10 continue to swirl, with a recent leak showing off alleged screenshots of an early build of what are rumored to be named Pokemon Wind and Wave. While rumors should always be taken with a pinch of salt, it’s coming up to four years since Generation 9 launched, which would make 2026 the perfect opportunity to celebrate 30 years of Pokemon with Gen 10.
