Cozy Gacha Game Heartopia Reportedly Generated Over Million in Revenue in February Alone

The cozy multiplayer life simulator Heartopia reportedly generated over $20 million in revenue in February of this year alone. This game from XD Inc. has been available in China since 2024, but it wasn’t until January of this year that it made its global debut. Since then, Heartopia has achieved over 5 million downloads on mobile devices and over 66,000 players in-game at its peak on Steam, gathering a significant number of enthusiasts of relaxing titles from around the world. In addition to a wide range of peaceful activities and opportunities to showcase creativity, this production also features a gacha system that allows players to complete specific sets of items or receive unique artifacts available only for a limited time.

Although it has only been two months since the game’s debut, Heartopia fans have already criticized the gacha system implemented in it, pointing out such issues as the lack of a pity system, too many duplicates, and excessively high prices for pulls. Many players participating in online discussions claimed that the system was unfair, citing the fact that it takes 200+ pulls to complete a single set, as well as pointing to the presence of an excessive number of banners at the same time. Most of the complaints about the gacha system boil down to the belief that it tricks gamers into spending money, while the chance of getting the item they want is very low. And while Heartopia is officially a free-to-play game, access to new content usually involves making microtransactions, which is common in titles that incorporate gacha mechanics.

Heartopia responds to criticisms of its gacha system, but many fans are disappointed with the pity system and duplicate compensation.

Heartopia Reportedly Generated Over $20 Million in February Alone

Fans of Heartopia recently came across a piece of news that made quite an impression on them, especially considering how little time has passed since the debut of this title. On a subreddit dedicated to this cozy life simulation game, a user named iamsilow shared a screenshot from the Bluesky platform, which shows that Heartopia allegedly generated $20 million in revenue in February alone. The scale of this presumed success is further amplified by the fact that the figures presented only relate to iOS and Google Play, without taking into account PC, Steam, and Chinese version sales. As the author of the post points out, such high revenues in February alone were probably driven by limited-time events featuring banners from My Little Pony and Forestbell Spell Fairy.

In the discussion sparked by the post, other Heartopia players also expressed their surprise at the enormous scale of the game’s earnings in a single month, but at the same time pointed out that they could not find any sources to confirm this information. Some of them admitted to contributing to this sum, mainly by spending money on cars and other accessories that were available as part of Heartopia‘s collaboration with My Little Pony. Other fans also referred to other games featuring gacha systems, which they believe achieve similar monthly revenues, even suggesting that XD Inc.’s production fell short of expectations given the hype surrounding it from the early days of its release. Some players also reiterated their criticism of the gacha system, stating that both the amount of revenue generated by the game and the number of players will decline if developers fail to address the issues mentioned by the community.

Less than a month after the release of this cozy gacha game, fans were already voicing their dissatisfaction with various issues, pointing out what they considered to be an unbalanced gacha system, but also criticizing Heartopia for its use of AI. After learning about the alleged $20 million earned by the production in a single month, the gaming community was divided on whether it wanted to continue playing: some expressed frustration about various unresolved issues, while others admitted that they would be looking forward to upcoming special events and new content. Regardless of the reception, Heartopia continues to develop further, announcing special promotions that allow players to receive free Gold and Wishing Stars, as well as hinting at new events coming in March and beyond.
